3.0 out of 5 stars DJ Qbert's frenzied scratchfest
Fan's of turntablism and speaker shredding scratching will enjoy this CD. 'Wave Twisters' is a scratchfest cavalcade, similar to the turntablist ferocity of 'Live at Future Primitive Sound Session' by Cut Chemist. Hypnotic, trancelike, with spine-chilling beats. The samples are minimal, but maintain soulful, almost tribal-like pulsating rhythms, somewhat like NWA's...

Listening to Wave Twisters is equivilent to viewing Hanna Barbarea cartoons under the spell of LSD-25. While his take on the DJ standard of scratching over one beat grows thin at times, his love for sci-fi camp and old-school asthetics gives this CD incredible soul.

5.0 out of 5 stars what hasn't already been said??, January 28, 2005
This review is from: Wave Twisters (Audio CD)
Altough this album came out many years ago, the choas and organized madness that layers this piece still overwhelm even the most hardcore of tablist heads. even to those outside of the scratch community in the more "public music" mindset that appriciate it for the concept album that it is may still not understand the audio of the album unless they accompany that with the dvd film that was spawned by the album. This cd is....for lack of a better comparison, hip hops "Tommy", its "Rocky Horror Picture Show", or even "the Wall" to really praise this piece. To say it so few words, this is not a hip-hop concept album. but rather, it is THE hip-hop EPIC.

This cd is great. Even after listening to the whole album severals times I still cannot appreciate the true complexity of each indivial track. Dj Qbert is truly the master turntablist. The way that he can bend and manipulate sounds at the same time is what makes him so incredible. If you think that you might want to check out a hip-hop/DJ...whatever cd then you have to buy this cd.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unusual, and charismatic, July 14, 2008
This review is from: Wave Twisters (Audio CD)
Alright, first thing I'll say: I think Qbert is one of the best skratchers I've ever heard. He's always having fun with what he's doing, and you can tell that this record was fun for him to make. This album throws all over the place, back to the unusual sounds of Dr. Octo, and maintains alot of character like Camel Bobsled Race and Demolition Pumpkin Squeeze Music. You'll find yourself humming baselines and singing "blast-blast-buh-blast-blastin on fools" at the bus stop. I really like this album, as it lacks skit tracks, ego-stroking, and other pitfalls of some of the other skratch albums I've heard. Cleanly assembled tracks with infections hooks, some romping bass-lines, back and forth cuts that talk to each other, and some straight up humor on "aphrodisiskratch", with this album Qbert retains his character and status as one of the baddest DJs in the world. Pick it up. As a side note, the album was remastered for the movie, so it is actually NOT identical to the soundtrack of "Wavetwisters". But pick honestly you will not be dissapointed, this albums was everything I had come to expect from Q.

5.0 out of 5 stars He's the Man!!, March 2, 2003

This review is from: Wave Twisters (Audio CD)
By far one of the most technically and musically talented dj's so far! Always ten steps ahead of the rest of the turntablist world. This can only be said about only so few dj's out there, It's been said to never show this man whatever scratch or new technique you've invented, 'cuz he'll take what you've invented and re-invent it and make it better. After hearing this album... I can beleive that!! Much respect to Qbert for paving the way in this art.. he's one of the few that make dj'n what it is, AN ARTFORM!! He's defenitely the man!!

This is a ridiculously strong album, especially if you've been sampling the diluge of DJ records out right now. Q-bert is not only one of the best scratchers in the world, but his tracks posess a depth that most DJs simply try to fill in by mixing in a fashionable beat. The record has character, class and heart, and is second only as a DJ record to Mix Master Mike's "Anti-Theft Device". MMM also helped out on this one, beat-wise, so get it.

This CD is the greatest. I just got it in the mail today and I'm listening to it right now. The turntabalism by Qbert is excellent. It's also fun to listen to the tv show and how it progresses. I really enjoyed and am enjoying this cd. If you want to here real turntabalism, listen to Qbert, he's the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Greatest turnablist ever, cool music video as well., November 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Wave Twisters (Audio CD)
Greatest turntablist ever. He also has an amazing video for the song Sneak Attack. All of the invisble scratch picklz should have their own solo album. Finally turntablism is getting the respect it deserves but it is still an underground form of music that many people have no idea about. But than again maybe that's good it stays underground. Qbert is amazing at what he brings to his music and he deserves more credit and praise for his album than he maybe getting.

5.0 out of 5 stars turntable wizardry and sheer insanity at its best, November 29, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Wave Twisters (Audio CD)
DJ Q-Bert throws out some of the craziest scratching I've ever heard in this extremely original and masterful album. Q is a guy in complete and total control of his medium, and he uses his tables and some drop-dead funny samples to deliver an edgy sound that you really can't find anywhere but the ISP (Invisibl Skratch Piklz). It definitely is not a mass-appeal album, though. Some people who aren't into experimentation and turntablism may not appreciate what Q's got to offer.
