I have owned my Wavebox since it first became available late 2008. I love this thing but the cigarette lighter cable melted a few weeks later. So, we got in touch with customer service and they said they'd send a new cable right away. It's March 2009 (5 months later) and I still have not received the cable. I have been using the battery clamp in the mean time, with faster heating times so it's been great. I use the microwave every weekday for lunch. Just last week, as my food was cooking, smoke began bellowing out of the cooling fans and it smelled like a circuit board was melting. The unit still works but the amount of smoke it belches out is alarming. Customer service has been contacted once again. This time they have responded better and say a brand new unit is on the way. I hope it's true, they really seem like they want to stand behind their product and it seems so well built to me. Hopefully mine was just a fluke since I can't seem to find any information online of other people's units failing.

Update: after waiting and complaining via email we got a response saying how sorry they are and it's just Tim Frank and his wife trying to make this product happen. They are standing behind the product and really wanting to make things right. I received my brand new wavebox and it works great. It actually works better now that the cooking "rack" is porcelain, allowing a more uniform heating. As a side note, I took my first unit apart and was impressed with the construction of the unit. Hoping that the new unit will provide me with many more hot lunches. I'm trying to change my rating to a higher one but apparently cannot with Amazon.

As the other reviewers have noted, this microwave barely works at all. Took 3 presses of the "popcorn" button (18 minutes run time!) to finally get around to cooking a bag of microwave popcorn that my kitchen microwave cooks in under 3 minutes. And that was hooked up to the wall AC. I thought this would be perfect for the RV: under 60 amps draw at 12 volts DC, small, portable, tough. But first it has to work. The only thing it seems to be good at is slowly draining the house battery in the RV. A 600 watt Haier microwave and a 1500 watt inverter work far better and are much cheaper.

A lot of negative reviews on this microwave, but most of them don't take into account that this microwave was created for camping use. Thus you cannot expect the same performance as a home microwave, and if you use it at 12V: this is a MICROWAVE not a toaster, it is rated at 660W which amounts to 55 AMPS at 12VDC, you cannot expect this to be provided by a car cigarette lighter which goes at 15A.

Also it has no rotating dish so it does not heat evenly which means you have to rotate the food yourself at regular intervals, no problem if you know a little about cooking.

Also as stated it runs at 660W which is less then 900-1000W of a home microwave and this means you need to calculate more time for your food to prepare, also no big deal if you know about cooking.

Then again I should note this is a camping device, so it is smaller and you can't expect it to fit a dinner plate in it, you have to adjust your way of cooking using a rectangular recipient that fits well. Camping is like that, doing things with limited resources and less space.

That leaves just one remark: it has no means to control the power output as a home microwave, so if you want to defrost anything, do it in 20-60 second batches turning your food everytime, again no big deal if you know something about cooking.

Now for my experiences: I have this microwave for more than 3 years, use it everytime we go camping, treating it well and cleaning it everytime. I have had 0, yes ZERO problems with it, does everything I want, taking into account above limitations, and I wouldn't want to miss it.

I bought this unit at a T/A Truck Stop and when I unpacked it and plugged it in I found it did nothing.. then reading the tiny little booklet that came with it I found the unit was made for 24 volt system, not a 12 volt system..... I looked and looked for some switch that might change it from one to the other but there was none to be found. So I took it back and looked at the other units that were at the truck stop and all were 24 volt... so in my opinion its not worth the hassle or the money till they can boost the power a little and get the voltage right for the country they are selling them in... great idea but very poor workability... oh and even tho I tried to contact Customer Service first, I could get no response.
SO DONT BUY THIS!!!!!!!!!! EVER !!!!!!!!

I bought this microwave from Amazon early this past winter. Upon arrival, I made the mistake of not testing the product. I instead waited until our first camping trip to try it out. Well, it didn't work. I have since emailed the company twice to see if I could return the unit to them for repair even offering to pay for the service. They have never responded back. Amazon should remove this portable microwave from it's offerings.
