I've put up with Wavepad 4.59 for a long time. It saves as mp2 NOT mp3.
I bought the MASTER edition BUT if I want it fixed I MUST BUY AN UPDATE.
NCH really treat their customers in the worst fashion I have come across. Unreachable, bug ridden products & complex ONE TIME registration (don't change your hard drive).

Massive misinformation on all their 'info' pages. You don't matter just send money. No more NCH products, avoid wasting money and lots of time.

What company has 30 errors over 3 software versions AND then charges you FULL PRICE AGAIN (or close to full) to fix the errors in a newer version?
And this is AFTER they SOLD me (and you) the PRODUCT with these features ADVERTISED AS WORKING in the first place?

5.0 out of 5 stars Free to Try, Cheap to Buy September 30, 2013
You can download and install Wavepad free on Mac or PC. It is very easy to set up, and I've used it on a gamut of computer platforms from Windows XP, Windows 7 and Mac OS 10. It works rock solid in every machine I have ever used. It finds any USB mike automatically. Just allow about 20 seconds for it to lock in on a new mike, and then select that mike from the pull down menu. That's it for setup. After that, it is easy to record, edit and apply post processing effects to your files. Naturally, this assumes you know how to record and edit on a computer. You are best to download the latest version for your computer platform direct from the NCH website. You can find them on Google. I've tried many audio software packages, and none are as easy or rock solid as this until you approach expensive, professional software like Protools.

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware September 25, 2012

This was purchased for my MAC. But this is a Power PC program which MAC no longer supports. You have to pay to talk to someone in customer service ($79.99* for the masters edition & $49.99* for the standard edition) I'm just going to return it. I don't even care if I don't get a refund. Credit will be fine. I was looking forward to using this but oh well.
Buyer beware.

4.0 out of 5 stars Skips Some Beats In Recordings April 9, 2012
Most of the software works great, but the biggest letdown is that when I record music from an external source or a mic, it sometimes skips (like a needle skipping on a record) and ruins the song.

Example: When it's supposed to sound like this: B.z.B.z.B.z.

The software hiccups and it makes the resulting saved file sound like this: B.z.Bz.B.z.

Not pleasant to the ears.

I don't care to pay to upgrade from this if it's going to have the same problem. Instead, I'll look into buying a competing product.

I was first introduced to WavePad by my son's best friend who used the program to create ringtones from mp3s, cds, movies, or YouTube videos. However, WavePad has more power packed into an 2.8 kB program than to just edit your favorite music or quotes to create ringtones.

WavePad has plenty of functionality one would expect from an audio editing program, however, it has some features I didn't expect. For example, the digital effects processor and filters, which cost hundreds of dollars for their hardware equivalents, are impressive. I was impressed to discover the ability to define band-gap envelopes for click and pop removal in addition to sampling white noise or tape hiss and subtracting it from recordings. Additionally, WavePad has command line batch file processing and FFT spectral analysis for audio engineers that is useful for other engineering applications too where waveforms need to be captured and analyzed.

I was also pleasantly surprised with the new Masters Edition of WavePad gives you access to a sound library, which is helpful when adding sound effects to audio tracks, mashes, remixes, video, etc... However, from my electronic music audio engineering days, I find it fun to listen to them forwards, backwards, take snippets of the sounds, apply effects and filters then combine them in MixPad for a completely different unique sound. NCH Software's Tone Generator is a great source for waveforms also that can combine for unique sounds. I have two synthesizers in my home studio I purchased in the 80's that use this technique to create all their production sounds.

Features from WavePad's Help Files:

* Supports a number of file formats including wav (multiple codecs), mp3, flac, ogg, vox, gsm, real audio and many many more.
