I really love my new light. I did have to change the two blue bulbs out to a plant version but this was the best deal I could find. They don't get too hot and the lamp seems really sturdy. I love the fact that the bulbs are behind glass. I had to switch the lamps out after installing it since I'm using it in a planted tank and discovered it was pretty easy to do (other than needing lots of floor room to pull the ballast out to do this). Oh, this is NOT for an open top tank. They say this specifically on their website. Also, they are coming out with moonlights in the next year that will attach directly to this lamp which is cool. This DOES NOT come with the moonlights (making sure you read that right).
My only wish, it doesn't have a timer. I usually turn it on before I leave to work (though I've made an agreement with my mom to do that now later in the a.m.). I thought about using a timer but I didn't plan my tank setup right so I don't have enough space behind the aquarium to put in a timer with this attached. I wish they'd come up with some device that you could hook on to control this. It doesn't recommend connecting it to any sort of extension cord (suspect it's a power issue - draws too much) so plan on connecting this light to a wall. Granted, I suspect any light of this sort is probably going to run into the same issues.
What's nice? Well, the cost is amazing! I saved probably over 80 bucks by buying this lamp from them. My local LPS wanted over $300 bucks so this was the best bang for my buck. If you're a beginner looking to created a planted tank - this will work.
