Detroit yo, May 2, 2000
This review is from: Waveform Vol I Transmission (Audio CD)
Hard Detroit techno at it's best. From the almost gabberish (in my opinion) 'Changes Of Life" to the industrial 'Phase 4'. Non stop slamming techno. I think this is a whole lot better than WT 3 but either way GET IT!

Great CD, but beware..., May 23, 2001
This review is from: Waveform Vol I Transmission (Audio CD)
I love this CD. It's one of my favorite works by Jeff Mills. But if you're a big JEff Mills fan, and want to own every CD with his name on it, BEWARE: This CD is Waveforms Transmission Vol. 1, it's exactly the same, not only are the songs the same, the packaging, booklet, everything. Why this is issued here under the name Apollo EP (it doesn't say Apollo on the CD) is beyond me. So,...great CD, but if you already have Waveform Transmission Vol. 1, you might not want this.

chill? DEFINITELY NOT!, June 6, 2002
this is the most muscular and harsh material i've heard from jeff. if you think a drill press into your ear canal is soothing, then maybe this would work as a chill out album. at several points the percussion sounds like scraping large pieces of scrap metal together. melody? you will have to look very hard to find it here. even "changes of life" (his take on derrick's track?) uses the piano lines as some kind of deranged percussion...by the end of the track the notes are completely sour and off key. lots of rough, acidy synths here. i get the idea that this is purely analog, it's sounds very, very "dirty" like it was made without software. this is 1993 we're talking about. overall, it's not very "fun" to listen to, unless your a tweaker or really pissed off. i think i have a strong stomach for harsh music, but even i have a hard time digesting some of these tracks. i like to listen to it in small doses cranked up really loud. if you don't want a migraine stay away from the speakers and definitely don't use headphones. overall, it fits in nicely with the old tresor sound, you know: repetitive, pounding 4/4 techno with absolutely no frills.
