Ibuse deserves greater renown if only for this & Castaways!,

This set of short novels reads more like the adventures of Ged the Archmage in Ursula K. LeGuin's Earthsea series than what can usually be expected from Japanese novels. Ibuse's storytelling skills should be able to stand tall among the ranks of Ryonosuke Akutagawa
