Apocalyptic tech-house...,

This CD is great, although it might not be the disc to convert your Limp Bizkit fan cube-mate to techno to (if one exists.) This is the perfect mix of apocalyptic Detroit meets NYC meets Rotterdam flavored techno. Not too much of one style, although it still keeps the 909 kick going throughout... and it gives an appropriate nod to some of techno's most senior producers without trying to "educate" the audience. Releases like this seem to signal a trend towards more street-style, rough warehouse style mixes versus the sterile digitally edited Moonshine mixes that do their best to make all of the mixing/records sound the same.

Wax! Boom! Smash! This rocks!,

I may have just given you the wrong impression of this album - it is not hiNRG by any means. It's more like an experiment of mixing house with underground. However, the result is an awesome sonic experience. It starts and ends slow and strange, but Adam's mixing skills and talent in picking out the right tracks shine throughout. He's almost playing with you - just when you have settled into a rhythm of a track, he throws in another riff. And just when you're about to get a case of arrhythmia from listening, he spins in another, which makes everything fall together beautifully. The perfect example is "Grasshopper", which transforms from the weird sci-fi "Birth" into a deep house groove with light layers of electronica, and then smoothly continues into "16th". Of course, none of these accolades are valid if you're simply planning to peruse this album for catchy party tunes (clue: you won't find them), but it's worth it all for listening on your own time.

Adam X's first mix compilation cd compromises tunes by some of the most noteable names in dance music(Neil Landstrum, Kevin Saunderson, The Advent, Carl Craig, Fred Gianelli, etc). It is a definite must for those who need to be schooled on techno. You're a brainless git if you think these tracks sound the same or are uninspiring.
