I will be going away to college soon and I was looking for some simple but attractive shelving options. These are it! Assembly was VERY easy and it took me less than fifteen minutes to put it together. They seem sturdy as they can hold up to my massive manga and book collections. I plan on ordering more of these. One of the nicest features is that you can choose and build these shelves to fit in the space that you need to fill. They are easy to customize by putting them together to suit your taste. The different color choices are great too! I highly recommend these shelves. They look great, they are easy and fast to put together, they are reasonably priced, they are sturdy, and they help the environment. What more could a person ask for?

This bookcase looked very good at first. I loaded it only with normal (not heavy or oversize) books, and it was in a house kept at normal temperatures. Within five months the lower supports started shifting horizontally, as the adhesive started letting go. After six months, the back piece came completely loose. Finally, the entire bookcase collapsed sideways. Fortunately, there was nothing nearby that could be damaged by the collapsing unit.

I purchased this shelf to be used in my home Montessori preschool. I decided to buy this over a traditional hardwood shelf because it was less expensive and made of recycled material...and looked super easy to put together from the handy video supplied by the company. When I opened the box I was amazed at how light each piece was! It took me less than 5 minutes to fully assemble the shelf (minus the backboard which I decided against using). It seems sturdy and it's easy to move around since it's light weight. I ordered the Cedar color and it looks quite natural- it matches our laminate flooring perfectly. The design appears much more sleek and clean than a particle board bookcase because it doesn't have holes and pegs for shelf height adjusting (Way Basics shelves are stationary). For Montessori purposes the top shelf is a little too tall for my almost 3-year old to clearly view the items placed on the shelf- but he'll grow up to it eventually.

My only complaint is that all three long boards came cut open at one corner with a few small dents in the boards. I placed each cut corners toward the back during assembly, so they aren't visible except for the very top board. The damage was probably due to shipping, but maybe Way Basics could find a way to package their products more securely, yet still sustainably. The slight damage didn't bother me, because I have a "whatev" attitude about most things- but if you're looking for a perfect product be wary that yours could come damaged too (although you CAN return damaged products to Amazon for free).

Also, I would be more likely to recommend to others and purchase additional shelving units if they were priced closer to $30 or less. But bravo to Way Basics for creating a useful, streamlined, sustainable product!

Well packaged but the pieces showed signs of poor handling such as scratches, small dings, scuffed edges, etc. None of it was "send it back" bad and considering the price and what I intended to use it for it wasn't an issue for me. The condition wasn't shipping as the boxes were in perfect shape so I'm thinking it was prepackaging. This also makes me wonder how well the surfaces will hold up to day to day use.

Assembly was incredibly easy and the thing was stable right from the first pieces being stuck together. There is some play room with he pieces until you really press them together at which point you are pretty much stuck with it. The one exception is the backing... DO NOT MISPLACE IT. Once it is on it is on and it fits right up to the edge all the way around so a little misplace can mean a white strip sticking off one side and being visible from the front. I have this problem on both of the two I assembled tonight but with some careful razor work it is fixable.

In short these are well worth it for the price. Don't expect something to showcase your fine china in or as a centerpiece to your living room but for the kids room or side tables or the bunch of other uses you can make of a little set of shelves like these they are perfect.

I purchased the white double rectangle for my bathroom. We are trying to economically remodel a house we purchased a few months ago that is in need of serious updating. The bathroom basically needed shelving or cabinetry that would be about 6 or 7 foot long, by about 3 foot high. But, it couldn't be more than about 12" deep (narrow bathroom!) So my choices were quite limited. I was looking at bookshelves turned sideways, just building shelves, etc. Then I found Way Basics. I did the math, and determined that 3 of the double rectangles would fit absolutely perfectly - almost a custom fit! But I wasn't sure about the quality, so I figured I'd order one, if it wasn't as great as I hoped, I'd just stick it in one of the kids' rooms or somewhere else. Much to my surprise, it was exactly perfect. It went together in just a few minutes. It weighs next to nothing. No tools. Just peel the tape and stick the sides together. It really is that easy. As soon as I get my next paycheck, I'll be ordering the other two to match this one, and my bathroom shelving will be complete!

None of my boards were marred or damaged in any way, and all were straight (they are flush with the wall at least, so if they are warped, so is my wall - though I am not saying that is impossible.)

You get what you pay for and in this case I got exactly what I expected, and I am happy! The other reviews were helpful in setting my expectations, and if you know what you are getting then you should be happy with this piece. It cheap, its not fancy and I would not put it on display but it is perfect as an inexpensive case that was unbelievably easy to assemble. I used it in the kitchen dinning area, so I could move all our cookbooks off of an exterior over-hanging picture window (worried about the weight). Its holding up great!

We were looking for eco-friendly, cute shelves for our home and these are perfect! They are reasonably priced and easy to put together. Check out all of their other designs - we have a bunch of these sets now and love them all!

I was initally skeptical about the construction of the bookcase. The way the components stack on each other and are held together with only double sided tape didn't seem to be very sturdy. The product did the job, though, for over 4 months without fail. I also noticed like the other reviewer that it didn't seem to be as vertical as it should be and the final nail in its' coffin was my two year old. While my children are not allowed to "climb" on furniture, they will eventually decide that a book case is merely steps put there for them to reach up higher. Granted it took 4 months for one of them to try it, but once one of them did the bookcase collapassed and now the eco-freindly thing is better suited for the garbage (where it will likely never decay). I tried to ressurect the shelf unit by screwing it together, but the flimsy material would not hold the screws, they pulled right out under any pressure. Even a "pressed" wood product whouldn't have collapsed like this did. You get what you pay for. It isn't worth your money.

The shelves were easy to assemble and they look just like the picture. They are very sturdy and lightweight, and fit perfectly atop metal wire closet shelving. I use this product to store linens and it's worked very well.

These shelves look nice enough, but, since they go together with two-sided tape, it's hard to get the pieces aligned precisely before permanently sticking them together. If you care about fit and finish, you may prefer something that goes together more precisely, such as with screws and pre-drilled holes. Also, since they're less dense than wooden shelves, I found mine to be susceptible to damage.
