You won't find this book in most contemporary Christian book stores, and why?....it's a powerful and convicting study on the Cross in the believer's life. This book should be in the hands of every serious, genuine believer in Christ, for it focuses on the many aspects of the Christian life, foremost as the believer walks beneath the cross of Christ, and "reckons himself to be dead unto sin and alive unto God through Jesus Christ." "Self" is the incredible enemy, and Mr. Mantle shows in some very powerful chapters what the ramifications of this life is all about.

It's not easy reading, but it is well worth price in gold!!!

Highly recommended!!

Mantle's book on dying to self is one of the best you can read. I read broadly and teach a class in the history of Christian spirituality in a seminary, and accordingly am acquainted with many of the books on the subject. This is one of the best. It ranks with Maxwell's Embraced by the Cross. I have read other books by Mantle and they don't compare to this one. The Holy Spirit must have particularly guided in the writing of this one. Note what he writes on dependence: "Not in the emergencies, not in the great crises, but in everything, we must cultivate the habit of dependence on Christ. Habitually recognize that He has undertaken the business of your life in all its departments; that there is not a difficulty that crops up but He has undertaken to carry you thorough it. He has become responsible, and only waits for you to use Him...." Speaking of surrender, he recognizes three lines: (1) to be anything the Lord wants us to be; (2) to do anything He wants us to do; (3) to suffer anything He wants us to suffer. I also appreciate the poems by such notables as Gerhard Tersteegen (see [...] to learn more about Tersteegen). This is a priceless book and should be required reading for all Christians.
