4.0 out of 5 stars Glenn Hughes, along with Paul Rodgers, Ian Gillan, best ever
Glenn's singing is awesome on this, the guitar playing is inventive as all three guitarists (Jocke Marsh, George Nastos, and Steve Salas) featured show nice touch. One of my friends (a guitar player) says that this CD is one of the best of the decade...I don't know if I would go that far, but songs like "The Curse" make it stand above the vast majority of...

1.0 out of 5 stars Glenn has lost his way
If you enjoy Glenn's flirtations with soul singing over extremely thin chord changes and out of key guitar soloing (thank you, Steve Salas), then maybe this album is for you. It sure wasn't for me. I preferred his singing in Deep Purple and on his two prior solo albums, "From Now On" and "Addiction." More to the point, though, is the songwriting...

Glenn's singing is awesome on this, the guitar playing is inventive as all three guitarists (Jocke Marsh, George Nastos, and Steve Salas) featured show nice touch. One of my friends (a guitar player) says that this CD is one of the best of the decade...I don't know if I would go that far, but songs like "The Curse" make it stand above the vast majority of what is released nowadays...also some very good mid-paced songs that allow Glenn to show his vocal chops...I would rate Glenn tied with Paul Rodgers as the best Rock/R&B vocalists alive. Ian Gillan would be the only one who can touch them in range (Ian has fried his vocal chords but in the early 70's was the best Rock vocalist ever! ) and/or emotion with a honorable mention to David Coverdale, Ronnie James Dio, Klaus Meine, and Rob Halford. Buy this CD! You will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE WAY IT IS, November 27, 1999
This review is from: Way It Is (Audio CD)
"the way it is" is a kind of cd that was a big surprise for me....positively! It was a long time i heard Glenn and loved your master vocals and bass playing in Purple Era! He was the best singer of Purple and one of the best in rock history...his live show in Recife (Brazil) was wonderful instead of bad sound ..his singing has never been better and continuous to be a virtuous bass player ever...Listen: YOU KILL ME,NEVERAFTER and THE WAY IT IS: they're diamonds! Is uncredible that Glenn doesn't receive that much attention these days. Not only that, but his lyrics are better and more meaningful.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best, November 4, 2000
This review is from: Way It Is (Audio CD)
Glenn Hughes recorded many nice albums during the last decade, and I own them all. But Way It Is is really something. The fusion of true hard rock, funk and jazz is, for anyone who has a wide range vision of rock n' roll, a gift from the Voice of Rock. The songs present an amplitude of styles that I could not find yet. It's certainly one of the best albums of the last ten years. Rockers, listen to it and you will find true rock n'roll. Long live GH.

Glenn voice is perfect! seems like years have not passed for him! or better he's voice is mature.

Songs like Never Ater reminded me of his days with Sabbath! awesome! and there's a modern sound in this CD! This is the way a man should SING!

5.0 out of 5 stars Micro Review..., August 20, 2009

An international cast of band members, including Jocke Marsh, Marc Bonilla, Keith Emerson and Stevie Salas make a fresh sounding recording, which ranges from hard funk into kicking rock tones. I almost got a speeding ticket, this one is a keeper...

5.0 out of 5 stars The way it is is very, very cool..., July 21, 2001
This review is from: Way It Is (Audio CD)
When I first bought this disc, it took while to get used to. Nowadays, I find myself going back to it over and over. I heard a live version of 'You Kill Me' and 'NeverAfter'on an import of Return Of Crystal Karma (ROCK). Man, did that rock. Now I can hear the subtleties of this disc that I missed before. I truly believe that Curse and 'Too Far Gone' are some of Glenn's best songs in recent years. Very good disc!

4.0 out of 5 stars Glenn Hughes-"the Way It Is, February 5, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Way It Is (Audio CD)
Glenn Hughes has always been a favorite of mine. From his days in Trapeze thru Deep Purple and now on into his solo career. The Voice that Glenn Hughes has conveys so much emotion and soul when he sings. On his latest CD The Way It Is, He rocks on from the first title cut, until the end of the CD."You Kill Me" is a perfect neck and neck race between voice and bass that brings the song to a killer finish."Neverafter" is his way of being in the moment and not rushing a song for speed's sake. The man knows he can sing and doesn't have to jabber throughout the songs. His Cover of Hendrix's "Freedom" is A Treat for someone who wonders how Hendix would be jamming if he were still with us.The players on this CD sound like a real band that plays together but has a dynamic voice under the hood that powers it full blast. I love a band that cranks it full blast as much as the next person, but a little goes a long way on "Cursed", when Glenn takes the time to build and maintain the song with a vocal that only need minimal music to adorn it. Glenn Hughes has been rocking the house since the 70's, but I would put "Stoned In The Temple" up against any of the so-called rock on the radio today. So,if you want rock that you can jam to, listen to,or recommend to anyone who loves music played for the listener and not just to keep the band happy, check out "Thw Way It Is" by Glenn Hughes. The man can Saaaaang and he plays when musicians that complement the vocals and when necessary put the pedal to the metal to keep up.
