Book Description

April 15, 1995
She had to lose everything-even her life-to find out where her heart truly belonged.

It only takes a second-a second filled with the scream of twisting metal, shattering glass and her own terrified cry-and Chris Copestakes' young life is ending before it really began.

Then, against all odds, Chris wakes up in the hospital and discovers she's been given a second chance. But there's a catch. She's been returned to earth in the body of another woman-Hallie DiBarto, the selfish, dazzlingly beautiful socialite wife of a wealthy California resort-owner.

Suddenly, Chris is thrust into an unfamiliar world of glittering prestige and angry secrets. As she struggles to hid her identity and make a new life for herself, she learns the terrible truth about Hallie DiBarto. And when she finds herself falling for Jamie DiBarto-a man both husband and stranger-she discovers that miracles really can happen.

From the Author

When all the how-to-get-published guidelines tell a writer that she must "stay within the lines" of what's out there, what does she do with a book that is totally different? Well, she publishes it anyway. What I've heard time and again from fans is that they want something different, something fresh and new. I'm thankful that St. Martin's Press gave me the chance to tell my different stories. As Rendezvous Magazine once said, "Tina Wainscott has the talent for making unusual situations believable...Bravo!"

If you're looking for something different, this is the book to try!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love is the most powerful thing on heaven - and earth., March 26, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: On The Way To Heaven (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the first book I have every read by Ms. Wainscott but is will not be the last. As an avid reader of romance it takes something truely special to catch my attention and this book exceedes every expectation. Not only have I fallen in love with this book, my co-workers have as well. We have passed it around to everyone and we are all insearch for "Shades of Heaven". If anyone has ever wondered if there is life after "death" or if you can right the wrongs of your life, this book can make you believe. And it does it through the most basic and complex of human emotions - love. To die without ever truely finding love would be hell. Thank God for second chances.

4.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring!, January 14, 2003
This review is from: On The Way To Heaven (Mass Market Paperback)
This was a wonderful love story that shows how the power of love can heal. I was drawn into this story and was unable to put it down until I had finished it. Hallie/Chris and Jamie were wonderful characters and the story of their love was great.

Hallie has had a brain hemorrhage and has died Chris has died in a car accident but on the way to heaven has asked for a second chance at life because she never experienced love. Chris is then sent back to earth and told to "find his heart". What she did not know at the time was that she was back on earth alive but in a different body. She was now Hallie. Hallie was a nasty piece of work that just before her collapse asked her husband Jamie for a divorce. The new Hallie has no memory of the old Hallie's life and has no concept of the pain that her old self had caused. Jamie knows that something is different with the new Hallie but he is afraid to trust the new her. He is afraid to give his heart back to his wife and does not know if he can trust her yet again.

This was really a heartwarming story and I feel that it is more then worth the effort it could take to get a hold of a copy of this story.

5.0 out of 5 stars I absolutely loved this book!, March 18, 1999

This book totally blew me away. Once I started reading it I could not put it down. Then, when I finished, I was sad that it had to end. The characters are so touching and the hero. Wow! Too bad they don't make guys like that anymore.
