Executive summary:
This is a unique distortion pedal that will give you a lot pleasure no matter what style you feel like playing, for the length of your playing career.

Details:
I've been searching for a good distortion pedal to play with. I went into a certain guitar chain and spent an hour or so trying all their distortion demo boxes. They all sounded very similar to me, with the exception of the Fat Sandwich. There was just something about it that set it apart from the masses. I still can't explain it fully, except to say that the "Harmonic Saturator" description on the product is perfectly fitting. It does just that - fully saturates the sound coming out of your guitar, but in a very pleasant and harmonic way. Go to youtube and find some video demos, or go to a local store and try one out. It's one of those "you just have to hear it" things.

It can make your ears bleed, or it can be very subtle. That's something I really love about this piece of equipment - its versatility. The range of different tones is outstanding. Besides the five dials on the outside of the box, there are three (easily-accessible) dials on the inside as well.

The construction of this pedal is very solid. I expect it to last forever!

I've owned this for a while now, and I also own the pork loin; I play lots of rhythm but also lots of lead in a noise rock/ alternative rock band. After I got this pedal It took a while to tweak it- its extremely hot and fiery. but when put in the pedal chain as the solo button stomp box; lordy jesus the response is phenomenal. Its got a "boost" like no other pedal I have used, with a clarity of reproduction of sound, fiery as it is, is staggeringly good.

Sure... Phatastic is clearly not a word. But it's an accurate description of this pedal. I've spent a lot of time digging for the perfect distortion/fuzz setup for my Twin Reverb. I've narrowed my board down to Dr Scientist The Elements, EQD Hoof/Reaper, EHX Metal Muff (cuz sometimes you need that), Way Huge Swollen Pickle and this guy. The Fat Sandwich fills the ground between normal distortion and Fuzz perfectly. It was something I had been looking for, for a while. This pedal is kind of a Jack of all trades. You can easily go from QOTSA to Smashing Pumpkins to the White Stripes. All things sounding passable, for the most part. The distortion is pretty heavy even with it dialed all the way back. This is mos def not an overdrive. It's a dirt box through and through. Way Huge makes some stellar products. And the Fat Sandwich is a star among their product line. It only gets 4 stars because 5 stars is reserved for The Elements and the Hoof/Reaper. But this pedal is outstanding and can cover a lot of ground. A solid investment :-)

UPDATED REVIEW. 6/27/15

I can't believe how much I've come to love this pedal.. a few weeks ago I didn't like it at all... Now it's definitely my favorite distortion of all time...
I've tried to recreate the sound and tone by combining pedals and tweeting my tube amp l, but there is smoking about this pedal.. I think it has a lot of depth to it... It is the most brilliant distortion circuit ever built! Wow... 5 stars buy it, and take your time with it... Seriously...
I have it 3 stars earlier because I really wanted to like this pedal but sounded very similar to my overdrive pedal.
The truth is the more I used it... the more subtleties, and the more I liked the fat sandwich over my other pedals y my pedal board.
It is just an amazing distortion... Definitely not for death metal or something that requires ridiculous amounts of hair... is not as heavy as a metal zone or other heavy distortions out there... but it's way more articulate .... Don't get me wrong... you can go from classic rock to metal in seconds... but it's more crunchy than hairy...
But there is something else about it... Something subtle in it's circuit that I cannot put my finger on it... I've compared it to probably 20 other distortions by now, and there is something about the fat sandwich that is just , well, FAT... and it sounds extremely crisp... of course if you stop playing there is some noise but that it to be expected from a distortion box... I've compared it to a multitude of dirt boxes, /// some include the suhr Riot, PRO CO RAT, Fultone gt-500, MXR Super Bad Distortion and the Fat Sandwich comes on top overtime... Be advised... I would recommend you try this pedal before buying it and spend a good amount of time dialing it in.. My mistake was in not doing that.

Although I have not had time to really see what this pedal can do at high volume, from the time I have spent with it, it definately boosts the output signal and creates a thick, smooth distortion and great presence.
