The Way I Am by Anna Johnsson,
By
This review is from: Way I Am (Audio CD)
I originally heard Anna on one of the freeview music TV channels and was totally "blown away" by the track "we are" I desparately wanted to know who she was, as she did not get much profile in the UK. In the end I did a search for "We are" and it threw up Amazon, hence I found the CD.
I bought the album mainly on the strength of that track alone but was pleasantly surprised that I actually liked every single track on it. (that is a rare thing). Sadly in the UK we have to put up mostly with "lift music" and tacky stuff like "I wanna be the next pop star" Anna Rocks and the UK jocks are shaking in their socks, their loss not hers. The internet breaks us free from the chains of our oppresed media and gives us a choice that is ours, not theirs. Anna is a rock chic to the power of ten and a rare treat.

Powerful debut, Ana!,

Okey, I must say that Ana is more than a pretty face.
I'm impressed. Really, really impressed. I'm glad she left "Excellence". She has IT - true talent. She can sing. Here's my review of all the songs; 01. We Are - The song from Spiderman 2. Very good song, but I've heard so many times now. Good lyrics though! (4/5) 02. Don't Cry For Pain - Her second single from her debutalbum, and its GREAT! I really hope it will be a worldwide smashhit too. Fantastic song, and I give it (5/5) 03. The Way I Am - Her first single in Scandinavia. It was released in autumn 2003. A good mix between pop and rock. (4/5) 04. I'm Stupid - I love the intro!! Good lyrics and good verses. A very powerful refrain also! Third single from this album? (4/5) 05. Life - Yeah, one of her best songs (yet). It's shocking irresistable . Love it! (5/5) 06. 6 Feet under - Guitar and drums. I don't know what to say more. Not a standout, but it isn't bad. (3/5) 07. Coz I Can - THE BEST song on the album. Good lyrics and great beat! Good message --> Don't take people for granted (5++/5) 08. Crest Of The Wave - Let's just skip this one. It's just too slow. (2+/5) 09. L.A - Worst song on the album. Better though than a lot of the radiomusic today. (2/5) 10. Now It's Gone - Another highlight! This song makes me feel good. Great guitarplay, feelgood lyrics. Masterpiece! (5/5) 11. Here I Go Again - Here she goes again. The lyrics are better than the music. I think this is meant to be a feelgoodsong, but no, it doesn't attract me. (3/5) Overall, a strong debut by a talented girl! I hope and I think we will hear a lot from here i the future! There are other songs she's done, and I would like to review them also. They can be found on "Cuz I Can" - the first version of this album released spring 2004. Just A Girl - Cool song! A song about how hard it can be being a girl. "There must be something wrong with me, cause I can't see what's wrong with me". Special lyrics, a good song! (3/5) Anything Goes - Summerfeelings!! A song about childhood. It's so good and cosy! Guitarmusic, harmonica and Anas voice sounds so beautiful! (5/5) A Song For Everyone - Skip it. This song is bad! (1/5) Tame Me - Pop/rock song with good message! (4/5) What Is A Girl To Do - A slower song with dark undertone. (3/5) Bring It On - This can not be found on the albums. It was released as a B-side to the "We Are" single and "Cuz I Can" single in Scandinavia. Cool lyrics! (4/5) IF THEY HAD EXCHANGE "CREST OF THE WAVE" AND "L.A" WITH "TAME ME" AND "ANYTHING GOES" THE CD WOULD HAVE BEEN A COMPLETE MASTERPIECE. ANYHOW, THE CD IS WELL WORTH GETTING. YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED.

Oh My God!!!,

Excellent album. It's a mix between rock and pop and it sounds unbelievable. I first heard We Are from Spiderman and I totally loved it. But thats not all that this Swedish girl can do. Almost every song is excellent on this album. There is, I think one song that I didn't love, but all the others are again excellent. I definitely recommend getting this album.

I first heard of Ana through recommendations and thought I would give her a chance. It's hard to find a female artist who can rock, has a great voice and can sing. Ana accomplishes all three nicely. She has a powerful voice which will develope over time, and she apparently knows how to use it. Having a great voice does not mean knowing how to sing.
The first thing about the music on this CD that blew me away, was Ana's eerie similarity to a young Pat Benetar. About half the tracks sound like Pat's early work. Strong vocal command, deep emotional out-pouring and a soul piercing enthusiasm enhance much of her work here. Some of the other tunes are plain old pop/rock, designed to be commercially successful. At times it sounds like you're listening to two different artists...One fantastic and one average. She reminds me that other artists such as Christina Aguilera, Leann Rhimes and Jewel all made numerous albums before reaching their peak as far as ability goes. I will definately recommend this CD to anyone who enjoys raw talent in it's beginning, and I will continue to follow Ana's work as I suspect she will only refine and push her talents to their limits!

Ana Johnsson's sound is fresh and full of life. This album is great. Ana is not well know by American music lovers but should be. She's a talented artist and this album is worth checking out.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Way I Am (Audio CD)
This Swedish pop/rock star rocks your ears off until theres nothing left. All of her songs are 5. If I could get this cd to a 1000000 then I would. This girl can perform and sing the best. I can't really explain anything more but that she is perfect. And I hope this was helpful for you!!!

Totally Invisible...,

i dont know how it got 5 stars and im not trying to discredit this artist but Way I Am is totally meaningless...the writing doesnt stand out at all and if u dont believe it check any song's lyrics. Ana got a record deal for being a pretty blonde that doesnt take off her clothes, anythg beside that is really ordinary...
Words trying to Rhyme, dependant vocals and such a transparent music...ive heard this for like one week then left it out because honestly, there are lots of artists out there that actually deserve to be listened to, theyre not as pretty, not as famous but far better than this one. A |
