This is a small book both in size, and content, and reach. There seems to be no guiding principle for the selection of commencement speeches collected here. The title is intended as a theme, but it is simply a marketing ploy. Yes there are some very good speeches captured in the book, but they are the exception. Most are just rambles or platitudes. With at least 100 great colleges in the United States (all of these are from a few schools in the United States) and over a decade represented, you would hope the collection would be much better, even exciting. Instead I actually feel cheated. This is worth maybe 2 dollars. Like a magazine. It is a marketing ploy, that has more to do with packaging and playing off the TED TALK mania, then it is a thoughtful collection, of what I am sure, are truly great commencement speeches not contained in the volume. (Not withstanding the 4 or 5 very good speeches that somehow made it into this collection. ) Maybe someone will do this idea justice in the future.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The speeches serve as reminders to keep looking forward. I am well beyond college graduation but still find the advice inspiring.

Feels like something I could have just found online, with videos. Also not a fan of the design. I bought it as a gift for someone and felt it looked too cheap and homemade to give. Great idea, but it's not packaged well.

I was rather disappointed in the volume. Not completely certain what I was expecting, but definitely something more. I found some of the essays actually rather boring, like Tom Wolfe's rant. If this book represents the best of commencement speeches, that perhaps explains why I cannot recall any of the commencement speakers from my own degree programs, or as a current faculty member, any of the commencement speakers I have listened to at graduations in even the last 10 years.
