A Young black man reaching maturity in the early 1950's, Andrew Young made decisions that led him to the ministry and on to the forefront of the civil rights movement of the early 1960's. He marched with Martin Luther King, Jr. through the streets of Birmingham and Selma, and he was with King when King was assassinated. Young's continuing work as a leader in the civil rights movement has enabled him to serve as a U.S. congressman, ambassador to the United Nations, and mayor of Atlanta.

Andrew Young is an American politician, diplomat, and pastor from Georgia who has served as mayor of Atlanta, a congressman, and United States ambassador to the United Nations. He also served as president of the National Council of Churches USA, and was a supporter and friend of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He lives in Atlanta, GA.

Starting from childhood, Andrew Young describes his early life growing up in an middle class family during the great depression. Andrew Young describes how there was pressure on him to continue in the family business, yet he knew that there was something else in store for his life. From meeting his wife to working with Martin Luther King, this book takes you behind the scenes of the Civil Rights Movement, the marches and how the events were organized. Young describes his life after the movement from his meeting with President Carter, his position as US Ambassador, his time as Mayor of Atlanta, to the death of his wife. This is a touching book written about a man whose work has touched every American.
