5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the wait., January 11, 2006
This review is from: Way Out Yonder (Audio CD)
I'm not sure why it took so long for this to become available at retail stores such as Amazon, as I was able to buy a copy from the Sons' site back in October. As a result, I've had quite a bit of listening time with it, and I can safely say it is a great album. Both the title track and "It's the Open Range For Me" sound like they could have been written by the Sons of the Pioneers, while "The Ballad of Joaquin Murrieta" continues the new "outlaw" direction Jack Hannah first explored on the 15 Years retrospective. "Glory Trail" and "Lord of the Rollin' Hills" serve as a testament to the Sons' profound faith, while "Where the Very Same Cottonwoods Grow" is a moving tribute to the men of the Alamo.

All of the Hannah boys are given a chance to shine, with Lonnie, Joe and Jack all taking turns at lead vocal duties. The musicianship is top-notch, as always.

Highly recommended to any western fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars More quality western music, January 28, 2006
This review is from: Way Out Yonder (Audio CD)
This is another quality compendium by the masters of western (not country) harmony. It is better than medication for stress relief.

The Sons are one of the few country musicians in modern day that sticks to the roots of cowboy music and philosophy. Each of the Sons have a background in classical music, which adds that much depth to their rythm and harmony. Every album they put out is a gem.

The Sons of the San JoaQuin are excellent and this album is no exception. If the hectic day to day grind is getting you down try a good dose of western music and the best of the best are the Sons of the San Joaquin.

Sons of the San Joaquin are as good as ( or better) than the Sons of the Pioneers--truly authentic cowboy harmony. Jack Hannah wrote most of the songs on this CD, and he is by far the best cowboy song writer alive.
