A Must Read for Poets and Writers, December 8, 2011
This review is from: The Way of the River (Kindle Edition)
I just finished BK Loren's book, The Way of the River. It is one of the best books I've ever read. I'm a nonfiction reader and I've read a lot of excellent writing that puts me to sleep. Literally. I read only before I go to bed and whatever I'm reading puts me to sleep. This book kept me awake and wanting to read it from beginning to end in one sitting. Even though it's a book about martial arts--a subject I would not normally ever pick off the shelf--her story is riveting. It's a story that (almost) any woman will resonate with because it's about overcoming the lack of self confidence that was bred into us as young women. BK has a way of pulling us into her thoughts, which echo our own, and showing us how she deals with her inner demons . . . through the physical. She translates her early life story into a poetic demonstration of excellent, magical writing. So I would say, this is a must read for poets and writers, especially women.
