The Way of A Roundball Warrior, A Spiritual Journey [Paperback]

James Patrick Dempsey (Author)

Available from these sellers.

Book Description

August 12, 2000
More than just a sports book, more than just a coming-of-age novel, THE WAY OF A ROUNDBALL WARRIOR, A SPIRITUAL JOURNEY is a story of human tragedy, the resilience of youth, shattered dreams, the relentless search for truth in this life, and the reconciliation of spiritual redemption.

Beginning on a playground in Washington, D.C. and ending on a mountaintop in the desert southwest twenty-five years later, Jimmy Dolmen emerges as a memorable character in recent fiction.

This profoundly moving first novel distinguishes James Patrick Dempsey as a writer of much promise.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"A very enjoyable book...
Couldn't put it down...
A great read for a plane ride." -- Mr. Fran Dunphy, Men's Head Basketball Coach, University of Pennsylvania

"Jim Dempsey clearly knows basketball -- and spirituality. He joins the two smoothly and articulately in this affecting novel." -- Dick Schaap, sportswriter and commentator with ESPN and ABC-TV

About the Author

James Patrick Dempsey was born in Washington, D.C. in 1954 and was called to the writer's life at an early age. After a premature ending to his athletic career, Mr. Dempsey searched for and found his novelists' voice as a taxicab driver on the streets of the nation's capital. His passion for knowledge led to the pursuit of a Ph.D. degree and years of work with children experiencing learning and emotional disabilities. He has also devoted himself to coaching and developing the next generation of "Roundball Warriors."

Most recently, Mr. Dempsey is involved with alternative and nontraditional education in our world of accelerating change, while he works on his next three novels.

After living in the west for a time, he now resides on the east coast with his two sons.
