Whispering in the Cedars: the Tengu-Geijutsu-Ron,
By
This review is from: The Way of the Sword: The Tengu-Geijutsu-Ron of Chozan Shissai (Mass Market Paperback)
In Japanese tradition, the Tengu - mountain daemons - are possessed of the ultimate secrets of swordsmanship. Chozan Shissai purported to have overheard a flock of Tengu alight in a cedar grove one night, and wrote down all their discourse on the Way. The book is a little slow reading, having been translated first into German and then into English, but the advice given for the serious sworder is nearly as profound and valuable as Musashi's "5 Rings." Ranks with "Hagakure" and "The Unfettered Mind." "Too much attention to technique inhibits the Life Force (ki)."
