5.0 out of 5 stars warm and insightful
Not just a traditional guide book, any lover of tea, or a reader of Okakura's The Book of Tea, would find this guide to tea indespensable. 1.0 out of 5 stars Missunderstood
I bought this book because it has great reviews, but I was looking for recipes and this book its a guide to San Francisco. I live in Chile, so for me it's not very helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars An eye for tea, January 14, 2008
This review is from: The Way to Tea: Your Adventure Guide to San Francisco Tea Culture (Hardcover)
Few photographers can match Jennifer's eye for photographing tea. Her guide to tea in San Francisco is as complete a snapshot as you will find for this city that embraces both European and Asian tea traditions. The Way of Tea is a delicious feast for the eyes!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tea House in San Francisco, December 11, 2007
This review is from: The Way to Tea: Your Adventure Guide to San Francisco Tea Culture (Hardcover)
This is an excellent book with wonderful photographs and extremely well written. After reading this book I definitely want to visit San Francisco and visit some of the tea houses. Anyone would miss a great opportunity to learn more about tea and tea houses and history of tea if they do not buy this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Timely Tea, December 5, 2007
This review is from: The Way to Tea: Your Adventure Guide to San Francisco Tea Culture (Hardcover)
I received this book just in the nick of time. Yes, it is beautifully designed and written, but more importantly it helped me through a difficult time. Apparently this is one of the gifts of tea. It is comforting, healing, and a warm companion that can get you through all kinds of rough situations. It was a gift that has kept on giving.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Tea Guide, December 7, 2007

I love this book. This is a great book if you are already a tea aficionado, or are just beginning to learn about tea (like me). You don't have to live in San Francisco to fully appreciate it. The Way to Tea also makes a great coffee table book and it is filled with beautiful imagery.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Celebration of the Center of US Tea Culture, October 29, 2009

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Way to Tea: Your Adventure Guide to San Francisco Tea Culture (Hardcover)
This book is a tour through the modern tea culture of San Francisco, which boasts more tea life than any other city in the country.

There are plenty of beautiful photos and the descriptions of the people involved in the tea rooms and stores are an introduction to family.

There's a little appendix in the back where Jennifer Leigh Sauer talks about different kinds of tea. She's true to Puerh here by mentioning a few kinds of it without relegating it to second-best among teas.

I recommend this book for anyone who wants to get close-up and personal with tea in America. It's like getting a backstage pass to your favorite show--better than front row.

If you are traveling to SF or live in the Bay Area and you enjoy tea like others enjoy coffee this is the book for you. Take a fun, different field trip to 2 or 3 diverse neighborhoods and explore them through the unique tea shops that this book covers. I have found the people in these ships to be warm and inviting and they all know and love the author-photographer, Jennifer Sauer. A great small coffee (ahem, tea!)table book.

Jennifer Leigh Sauer has created a masterwork of words and photography that transcends the local tea culture in the San Francisco Bay Area and brings tea culture to a larger audience. By focusing on the Bay Area, she brings the centuries old concept of tea culture to a larger American audience. Her personal adventure in mastering this subject has created more than a local guidebook. Ms. Sauer's loving attention to detail has produced a beautiful book.
