5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for reading in small bites, March 6, 2008
This review is from: Way Things Work (Paperback)
The Way Things Work is a charming, illustrated guide to the physical world for those of us who are both curious and a bit undereducated. The charm comes from Maccaulay's illustrations and his adorable choice of mammoths (that's right, mammoths) as the foils for the slightly jocular explanations.

Most of the explanations are good, a few are downright ingenious. It's true that a couple of examples, particularly those about optics are a bit rushed and may leave the reader as confused as ever.

The best use of this book is to offer it on those occasions when small, discrete nibbles of reading are in order. So it's perfect in the waiting room of a doctor's office or the guest room in your home. Note that there are used copiesThe Way Things Work that are so cheap that it would be a pity not to give a few away.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Greate Book for Kids and Grown-ups alike, could use an update, November 13, 2008
This review is from: Way Things Work (Paperback)
My kids and I love this book. There are a few sections that need a update and I'd like to see more recent technology added, but hey what can say, it's funny and informative!

I also I wish it were available in hardcover!
