This book is about making every trip a journey - a journey to raise consciousness, grow spiritually, and have a deeper life experience. And it's about setting goals to ensure that even the simplest or most mundane trip can bring new insights. These short essays, exercises, and affirmations make the time before, during, and after traveling more meaningful, and provide the perfect companion for any type of trip - near or far, short or long, business or pleasure.

Editorial Reviews

Review

The day before I was about to take a trip, "The Way of the Traveler" arrived in the mail. Serendipitous, you might say. No indeed, the author Joseph Dispenza would reply. He has trained himself through the study of Jungian psychology and other spiritual disciplines to see every event, however trivial, as a means to gain understanding and insight into one's spiritual life and purpose.

Instead of tossing the book on top of my stack of "to do" materials, I sat down in the morning sunshine and started reading. I am so glad I did! Whether you take many business trips every week, travel once a year to some faraway clime, or never leave your comfortable armchair, "The Way of the Traveler" can be useful.

This book offers us the possibility to live more credibly, whether we're traveling or not. But certainly when we do hit the road, we are issuing a desire for some sort of transformation, and it's worth considering what that change is or can be.

More About the Author

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I lived monastic life for eight years, studying religion and spirituality first-hand. My order was the Congregation of Holy Cross (CSC). The monastery was in a remote part of Indiana. The first year of my monastic experience was a year of total silence. After I left the monastic life, I worked for social change with a number of humanitarian organizations, including The Center for Social Communications in New York and the Institute for Environmental Change in Toronto. I earned an advanced degree in communication and became an educator and writer.

I am the author of fourteen books, including "OlderMan/Younger Man," "God On Your Own: Finding a Spiritual Path Outside Religion" (Jossey-Bass, 2006), "Live Better Longer" (HarperCollins, 1997) and "The Way of the Traveler" (second edition, Avalon, 2002).

My writings on spirituality and natural self-healing have appeared in magazines, newspapers, and websites, including Alternative Medicine, American Way, Beliefnt.com, Eddie Bauer, Free Spirit, Magical Blend, Massage Magazine, Spirituality and Health, Whole Life Times, and To Your Health. Much of my professional life has been spent teaching, as lecturer at American University in Washington, D.C., and as professor at The College of Santa Fe, where I founded an academic program in Moving Image Arts.

I have been in practice as a spiritual counselor for 20 years. I am the co-founder of LifePath Retreats in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, where I live.

5.0 out of 5 stars Never Again Will You Fall Asleep Behind the Wheel of Life, November 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Way of the Traveler: Making Every Trip a Journey of Self-Discovery (Paperback)
A "travel guide for the soul," this book is about living consciously during the moments in life when we have the greatest opportunity to redefine our world and ourselves - when we are traveling. I've already given a copy as a gift.

We all know "getting away from it all" is a great time to relax and think - or *not* to think. The Way of the Traveler shows inspiring ways to open your mind and spirit to either think or just "be."

One of the epiphanies in this book for me was how I defined a "journey." After reading The Way, I have reframed even my gridlocked commute during rush hour into a more relaxing experience. It has reframed my "schlep through the front door" into more of a "homecoming."

Dispenza's "Way" is light reading with a deep message (and its compact size fits into my carry-on luggage!).

5.0 out of 5 stars Indispensable! Traveling Will Never Be the Same, October 12, 2001
By
This review is from: The Way of the Traveler: Making Every Trip a Journey of Self-Discovery (Paperback)
I loved this books so much I read it 2x. "Way" really hit home and has opened up the idea of spiritual traveling for me. I knew my journeys were revealing something to me, as many a time, my life changed drastically after the get-away and I had a new look on life.
This book put a structure around what I was experiencing. It brought conciousness to those emotions, feelings, and fears.
I like the many excercises and building of a shrine it suggests exploring. I will use this book as a reference book-a guide to my many more life experiences.
Thank you for taking self-discovery to a new level!

My first book by Joseph Dispenza, but not my last! I loved the information in this book. I could not put in down when I first bought it. I leave it by my bedside and read a passage every morning upon awakening. It's my jump start for the day. I totally encourage everyone to buy and read this book. I am so grateful I bought it and did not leave it on my bookshelf to read "later". Thank you Mr. Joseph Dispenza for such insight into how to handle our lives on this planet......
