Book Description

January 27, 2004
Now available again to unfold its lessons of mastery for a new audience, The Way of the Warrior has become a true martial arts classic since its first publication in 1991.

The combat techniques of the martial arts of India and the Far East have origins shrouded in mystery and practices protected by traditions of secrecy. In The Way of the Warrior, the world’s great masters, experts dedicated to the purest expression of the martial arts, reveal the principles that inform their philosophy, training, and technique. The disciplines covered include: from India, Kalaripayit and Mama-Adi (the secret and deadly use of pressure points); from China, Shaolin (better known as Kung Fu), and Tai-chi; from Japan, Bujutsu, Karate, Judo, Aiki-do, Kempo, and Naginata-do (practiced by women).

Richly illustrated in full color and a must-read for any enthusiast, The Way of the Warrior demonstrates the essential paradox of the martial arts—that study of a lethal skill can lead to spiritual enlightenment.

This review is from: The way of the warrior (Paperback)
The Way of The Warrior series was first shown on BBC2 in the UK. This is the book of the series, a very good accompanyment is more of a synopsis that an in depth study of each art.

If you are interested in Martial Arts the book gives you a broad picture of what arts there are and how they became what they are today.

A must for the bookshelf.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Overview, October 24, 2008
This review is from: The Way of the Warrior: The Paradox of the Martial Arts (Paperback)
The Way of the Warrior is a good overview of the martial arts. It is a beautiful book with some interesting photographs. This book gives you an introduction the the martial arts throughout the world. It covers the history of the martial arts focusing mainly on the Asian arts, although it does have one small chapter on martial systems in other parts of the world. It contains a pretty complete glossary of martial arts terms and overall is an interesting book.

The Way of the Warrior is well done and would be a good addition to the martial arts library. The photographs alone would make it an interesting coffee table book in the home of the martial artist. It is worth reading.
