Illuminated by full-color photographs from Mech and other expert wolf photographers, The Way of the Wolf is an enlightening resource for all concerned about wolves and their future. Mech focuses on wolf behavior and biology, offering an overview of the animals' social hierarchy, communication methods, feeding habits, courtship, and reproduction.

A noted wolf research biologist, "wolfman" Dr. L. David Mech has studied wolves and their prey full-time since 1958, except for a four-year period when he studied radio-tracking. During this record-long career as a wolf biologist, he has published numerous books and articles, including The Arctic Wolf: Living with the Pack and The Arctic Wolf: Ten Years with the Pack (Voyageur Press). Nature Book Society Feature Selection; Outdoor Life Book Club Selection.

Also recommended: The Arctic Wolf, A Society of Wolves, The Wolves of Yellowstone, Wolves Postcards.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"A book on wolves by L. David Mech is always welcome, especially one with such excellent color photographs of both mature wolves and pups. No one has done more to regenerate the reputation of the wolf in the white man's world than has David Mech in his many years of research of North American wolf populations." -- Outdoors West

"An excellent combination of masterful photography and relevant and convincing discussion. I recommend it highly. . . ." -- The Conservationist

"It's [Mech's] intimate perspective on the wolf . . . that will make you want to read The Way of the Wolf." -- International Wolf

"Mech is the foremost expert on wolves in this country, possibly in the world, hands down." -- Smithsonian

"[The Way of the Wolf] bursts with spectacular photos, authoritative insights and hard-won data disguised as narrative . . . ." -- Chicago Tribune

5.0 out of 5 stars wolf, wolves, wolf pack, wolf book, March 13, 2010
Very nicely written, this book will find the species known as wolf working its way into your heart. Full of photos and first hand observation, Mr Mech gives us a chance to know a species the human race has long found to be frightening and mysterious. He hleps shed light on their ways and traditions of the pack and brings us closer to their way of life. We all owe him a debt.Thank you Mr. Mech.Through Wolf's Eyes (Wolf, Book 1)
