UB40 got established in the musical world with their turgid renditions of '50s and '60s classics. They were trying to evoke roller skating waitresses in a Caribbean paradise,or drinking malteds in the shadow of a palm tree,having a sock hop among the sands. Instead,one wants a bottle of rum like Capt. Jack Sparrow."The way you do the things you do" is a loooong title for a song that goes on too long. Shouldn't have begun in the first place. UB40 seems to get constant rotation on the radio (they were on a Top 40 station not too long ago),and this is one of their overplayed "hits." "The way you do the things you do" defines the annoying fake reggae love song. It's enough to anger Marley's ghost. |
