5.0 out of 5 stars ALC Alert VT220 Auto/Marine Digital Compass
This item is perfect for someone that doesn't know much about compasses. It was really easy to set. It only took seconds to set up. I even got it at a great price. Thanks for recommending it to me.

1.0 out of 5 stars Affordable Price, Too Bad It Doesn't Work
Received the compass, installed the batteries provided and ......it didn't work (no display). Put a new set of batteries in and same result. Contacted the Company and was told the compass line was sold to another firm and I should contact them. So far, after a month, I'm still waiting for a response from this new company. I will not recommend this product. I use it in my car and most of the time is wrong. If you really need a compass you better read all reviews. I usually do it but I couldn't find about this product and well ... lucky it was only a few dollars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wayfinder is Way Cool, March 16, 2007
This review is from: Wayfinder All-Terrain Auto/Marine Digital Compass (Sports)
The WayFinder is a very nicely packaged and built, rugged and accurate compass. It provides 5 degree sensitivity in the numeric display, versus the typical 45 degree compass points of most automotive application units. A result, in some environments, e.g. areas with lots of metal in the surroundings, is that you may notice a numeric readout change back or forth that you would not see in the typical 45 degree type compass.
It should be noted that interference environments affect ALL compasses, but when this one is significantly affected, it will tell you by displaying DISTORTION, so you know the currently displayed accuracy is suspect. In the areas I have tried it, the WayFinder is as accurate as my lensmatic engineering compass, but a LOT easier to use.
It comes equipped with a dual suction cup mount which stays put on my motorcycle windshield while driving down washboard dirt roads at high speed. Another post on this topic indicated that the compass would not stay put. Chalk that up to operator ignorance. Suction cups must be wet to stick to glass, but the manual did not mention this, likely assuming people have common sense, when obviously they don't.
All suction cups require moisture on the cups to stick to glass.
The only bad thing about this unit is that it has been discontinued, and is being replaced by a unit with more features at a LOT more expense.
Bottom line, if you need a high quality, off-road tough, accurate compass, find a WayFinder before they are all gone!

I bought it from sears, it worked for 3 month, then stoped, no screen display, changed with new battery, still not working. I gave up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lost and need to find your way?, February 2, 2007

I bought this device primarily for the temperature feature, but guess what, it wasn't temperature, it was degrees of direction. Despite my misunderstanding, it is accurate. The only drawback is that the suction cups do not work on the windshield. I keep it in my glove compartment and pull it out when I'm lost. The backlight is not useful because it is too dim. Might as well have left that off and sold it a couple of bucks less.

I bought this unit two months ago and since that time I have used it sparingly. I went to turn it on today and it was dead. So I went out and bought a new battery and replaced the old one. Still dead. I tested the battery on a meter and it was full of juice, unlike this so called 'rugged' unit. A total waste of money, be forwarned!

I'm surprised at all the negative reviews for this compass.
Worked perfectly at outset.
Followed directions. Turned steering wheel all the way in one direction before starting 2 turns (not one) & pressed power button before completing second turn.
Agree backlight could be brighter but it is still readable in low/no light situations. And, you don't have to hard wire light (uses battery).
Bought at Radio Shack for $9.97+tax. Great buy.
