5.0 out of 5 stars A Truly Touching and Inspirational Story!
Wayne's story touched my heart deeply and made me realize how life-altering and psychologically destructive child abuse is. We are never really free from the pain of abuse although, as in Wayne's case we can rise above the pain and reach out to others. He determined to share his story with the world and he has done so in beautiful prose and with a striking humility and...

1.0 out of 5 stars Book is a Joke!
Personally knowing the author, Wayne Theodore, I can tell you that this book is a joke. He is not a survivor but still an abuser to all that come in contact with him, even to his own children. This book was written as another one of his get rich quick schemes. I think that it is discusting that this book is being used in schools for kids when Wayne himself, as he...

5.0 out of 5 stars RIVETING, March 27, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Wayne : An Abused Child's Story of Courage, Survival, and Hope (Hardcover)
I hate to start with a cliche like, "You won't be able to put it down", but from its very first words, this book kept my eyes riveted to the page. Fortunately, you can easily read it in one or two sittings. From the time he was born until he ran away from home as a teenager, Wayne Theodore's life was nightmare of unimaginable abuse and neglect at the hands of his violent father. But this story isn't a downer. Wayne's courage and will to survive make his book an inspiring and uplifting read. In its dramatic climax, sparks fly when Wayne and his siblings confront their mother and father on the Sally Jessy Raphael TV show. At the end of the book, Wayne breaks the cycle of abuse and makes a success of his life, but continues to struggle with the emotional scars. This is a must-read for anyone who enjoys a dramatically charged and inspiring story, especially if you care about children. It has special meaning and insight for anyone who has ever struggled with issues of self-esteem.

4.0 out of 5 stars truly inspiring, March 21, 2006
This review is from: Wayne : An Abused Child's Story of Courage, Survival, and Hope (Hardcover)
It takes a lot of courage to face your fear, and in this book Wayne faces and confronts his hideous past. Bringing to light his repressed memories of his upbringing. I think the way he rises above everything to be the person he is today, is a lesson to us all. This book is a good read, i could not put it down. I read the whole book all in one sitting.

I actually bought this book at a book signing. After meeting Wayne and reading his story I feel that more needs to be done to help victims of child abuse and to stop the abuse. It is a miracle he survived his childhood. It really is a testament to his courage and strength. I highly recommend.

This review is from: Wayne : An Abused Child's Story of Courage, Survival, and Hope (Hardcover)
I was assigned to read Wayne for my Sophomore Health class, and I was dumbstruck. This book was amazing and I strongly encourage students and parents alike to read this amazing story of Wayne Theodore's life. His trials and tribulations of his life are ever so inspiring. At times I wanted to put it down, but at the same time I couldn't let myself. Its would be a shame to give away any of the details but I can truly say after reading this book I've been given a new outlook on life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sheila!, June 15, 2006
This review is from: Wayne : An Abused Child's Story of Courage, Survival, and Hope (Hardcover)
What a suvivor. Wayne Theodore I appreciate this book. There are so many adults suffering today because of childhood abuse.People don't even know about most of the cases. Some parents and family have truely been mean to chidren and ruined lives. And do you know what, the abusers are crazy enough to wonder why those that they have abused have problems in life. Carl Theodore could have given his family a better life. His son mentioned him having money in his pockets. But he chose not to be a good provider. What would make a person want to inflict pain on his own children? What and why? I hope Wayne's brothers and sisters come to realize how wonderful Wayne is. I hope they have grown closer and supportive of each other. Can you just imagine how many sick people are taking advantage of children? There are a lot of sick parents in this world. Their children are sometimes the product of their wickness.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Inspirational True Story, October 17, 2003
This review is from: Wayne : An Abused Child's Story of Courage, Survival, and Hope (Hardcover)
Once I picked up the book "Wayne" I could not simply put it down. Wayne is such a wonderful person, I feel as if I know him personally and if I was there, all through his childhood. I wish I were, to hold his hand and comfort him as his father abused, neglected and stole from him and his siblings and raped his mother. "Wayne" is my all time favorite book, everytime I think about it, I am moved. I gave it to my mother to read, and she read it all through the day into the next when she finished it. Wayne is such an inspiration, a stand up guy, and his strength and courage should be spread throughout the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Left me speechless, October 3, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Wayne : An Abused Child's Story of Courage, Survival, and Hope (Hardcover)
"Wayne" forever changed the face of child abuse when he shared his horrifying secret with the world.
Haunted by memories of a childhood stolen, "Wayne" finds himself on a path of self-destruction. Drug addiction and attempted suicide were once the only answers to the pain of years of daily beatings, degradation and abandonment. "Wayne" speaks of childhood promises made- and the courage of a man who honored them. And so begins his lifelong journey of healing.
This is a story of hope, strength and the power to overcome. His message is clear- it is time for all who have been abused to release the shame and hopelessness, and begin their own healing. This book will tug at your heart strings and leave you in awe of a man called "Wayne".

5.0 out of 5 stars An inspirational look at the life of an abused child., April 10, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Wayne : An Abused Child's Story of Courage, Survival, and Hope (Hardcover)
This book is the finest example of a book that should depress you; but that instead lets you understand that the human spirit can overcome anything. Wayne Theodore suffered unimaginable abuse at the hands of the people he should have been able to trust. Daily beatings and horrific living conditions should have left him an emotional basket case. Instead he was able to find the strength to rise above his childhood and build a life that he and his siblings could never have imagined. This book is a must read for anyone who is interested in this subject. Especially for those who have suffered abuse themselves.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must-Read!, March 20, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Wayne : An Abused Child's Story of Courage, Survival, and Hope (Hardcover)
One of the most compelling and inspirational stories I've ever read. As a child, Wayne Theodore faced the worst kind of emotional and physical abuse at the hands of his father and mother, but he was able to find the strength and courage to survive against all odds. You'll feel like you know Wayne personally when you're finished reading the book, and his story will convince you of the incredible power of the human spirit. This is a must-read for anyone who cares about children or who has faced childhood demons of their own. You'll be thinking about Wayne and his remarkable story long after you've read the book.
