Dont Buy Unreliable,
By
This review is from: Wayne CDU790 1/3-Horsepower Cast Iron Submersible Sump Pump (Tools & Home Improvement)
I like the pump design I have had both ACE and Wayne 1/3 and 1/2 HP pumps. There are two problems - switch life is 2 years or less depending how often its used. The float rod is regular steel and rusts causing the float to stick, which causes the pump to stay on or off. I can't figure why Wayne would make a great pump with lousy parts. Yup I can typical American manufacturer; no life testing and poor quality control. Recommend you stay away from Wayne pumps. Remember you don't need the pump when its dry - they fail when you need them the most, in a rain storm at 2 pm or when your on vacation, again stay away from these Wayne pumps. They have known about these design flaws for years and done nothing about it.

CDU790 Sump Pump Review,
By
This review is from: Wayne CDU790 1/3-Horsepower Cast Iron Submersible Sump Pump (Tools & Home Improvement)
Pump arrived promptly and works as advertised. I am a satisfied customer. I have no hesitation recommending this pump.
I had a flooding problem in my driveway across from several garages. The water had nowhere to go but eventually would reach the point where it would flow down sidewalk across front yard removing mulch from flower/shrubbery beds. The pump was placed in a sump that holds about 15 gallons. It is fed by two drains located at driveway low points and piped to sump. With moderate rainfall, pump comes on about every 40 seconds for a 9 second interval. For very heavy rainfall, pump comes on about every 11 seconds for an 11 second run. I have pump exhausting through a 1.5 in PVC pipe about 60 feet long to city street. The pipe goes uphill about 3 feet including its depth in sump. Calculations indicate it is putting out about 1900 gpm to street. Pump is rated at 2800 gpm for a 5 ft. head. Head includes altitude change as well as pipe losses. Therefore with 60 feet of pipe plus some elbows, the rate must be less.

GREAT WORKING SUMP PUMP,
This review is from: Wayne CDU790 1/3-Horsepower Cast Iron Submersible Sump Pump (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought one of these 12 years ago and it still worked, but the shut of switch quit. I decided not to fix that, get a new one, not only did it get used for the cockpot in basement, but the washing machine was run through the cockpot so the sump pump got a good work out every day. Don't buy the pedestal type, they only last 1 or 2 years, the submersible pumps are the way to go, very dependable and will last for years.

Great Product, Not So Great Price,

The pump looks very high quality and evacuated the sump pit very quickly. I prefer the float switch over the tethered system. Installation is easy, ignore the manual, the best instructions are right on the box.
I was disappointed when I saw the same pump at the local Farm & Fleet for $90 instead of $115 from here.

Just replaced my 23 year old Wayne CDU 790 - not because it was broken, but because I just didn't want to risk a breakdown. I replaced it with a new CDU 790. Wayne is the premier pump mfg in America. They make nearly all the gasolie pumps used in the U.S. Highly recommend. The unit gave me quiet, dependable service with heavy use during rainy seasons here in CT.

A USA made Sump Pump,

Bought this pump to replace an old column pump that had failed. I looked at a similar type pump as a replacement, and found most of them to be made outside the US, and cheaply made. I wanted a USA made product that had a chance of lasting more than a few months. I called the factory and found out this one's made in Ohio. Seems to be built really well, and fit perfectly. So far so good. It pumps out my sump crock really fast. I would buy it again.

Was easy to install and works great. I love the guarded float. It prevents the float from sticking to the wall of the sump tub. I have previously installed one of these on my mother's sump that was too small for a regular pump. It has worked flawlessly for five years now.

My first pump lasted 22 years so when it developed a ground fault I replaced it with the same model. A 22 year life with no problems - no complaints!

I bought one of these same EXACT pumps 7 years ago from Ace Hardware. It was a Wayne 1/3 hp. submersible and looks exactly like this new one, same specs, etc.
It was used every day to drain a basement shower used every day by 2 people, a gas furnace drain line and a dehumidifier drain line (from a very damp basement) into a sump crock. It performrd well-- but my corrosive well water from the shower drain finally got to it and rusted out the top housing. I bought another one (this new one I am reveiwing) to replace it and it is installed and working well. I expect to get at least 7 years out of this one-maybe more because I am changing over to city water this summer. I know my corrosive well water was the culprit because I cannot keep faucet fixtures from corroding out for more than a few years. I would recommend this pump over the 3/10 or 1/4 pumps because of it's heavy duty construction. With free shipping and no sales tax at Amazon it is a great deal!

Huge NPT discharge & no adapter,

This may be the wrong solution for a residential sump. The discharge port is a whopping 1.5" diameter and there exists no adapter that would make it fit my discharge hose, which is much smaller. However, I learned that I could easily convert a regular, 1/6 HP utility pump into an automatic sump pump simply by adding a tethered float switch. No hose adapter needed because the pump discharge is the right size to begin with.
I wish I had known all this before purchasing the product. I was able to return this pump with no hassle, but it is a heavy beast, costly to ship. |
