Bad impeller design, cheap plastic spins free on motor shaft.,

This review is from: Wayne CDU800 1/2 HP Cast Iron Submersible Sump Pump (Tools & Home Improvement)
Within 1 months time I had 2, 1/2 half horse power cast iron sump pumps flood a basement because the plastic impeller connection to the motor shaft had enlarge to the point where it spun free on the shaft. They were both the previous version of the 1/2 HP cast iron pump. The CDU800 has the same plastic impeller. One pump was 3 years old from date of manufacture, the other 17 months. Both locations only pump ground water and run just occasionally when it rains hard. Without any local parts and service agents, you have to buy new and then order parts and repair if possible. Having the cast iron housing and stainless screen mean nothing if the impeller is just plastic junk. My previous Zoller pumps had lasted more than 10 years. They were made in America. Wayne leads you to beleive that they are made in America & Canada, but a local pump repair shop said they were Chinese pumps. Parts are only available from Wayne and it takes 5 days to ship from Hamilton Ohio (or whereever) to Indianapolis Indiana. Replaced both with Zoller, But I am not sure these are even made in US any more.

This is the third Wayne pump I have purchased for my french drain in basement over the last 18 yrs. They have all worked very well and are very dependable. I always replace after 6 yrs for peace of mind . Always make sure the pump is sitting straght up for the float to work properly.

I bought and installed the Wayne 1/2HP sump pump 2 years ago in my basement sump pit. I replaced a 20 year motor that had finally stopped, due to muck at the bottom of the steel lined pit. The only purpose of this pump is to push out the water generated from my furnace and the humidifer that goes into the floor drain and then into a 55 gallon sump pit. No outside drainage tile. So the pump only operates about 7 times a week and pumps out the water out into the sewer line which is located 8 feet above the pit. A powerful pump that works quickly when needed. No problems

Wayne 1/2 HP sump pump,
This review is from: Wayne CDU800 1/2 HP Cast Iron Submersible Sump Pump (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have owned the Wayne 1/2HP sump pump for over 5 years. Originally I intended this pump to be a primary sump pump but after one week of moderate to heavy rains, I soon found out this pump could not handle the flow of water into my sump well. The sump pump ran continuously and I needed a second pump to keep the basement from being flooded. Now I use the Wayne pump strictly as a backup pump. If you don't live in a low lying area as I do, you may be able to get by with this pump as a primary sump pump. One other thing, the pump is relatively noisy.

I have used Wayne sump pumps for about 13 years. The last pump was replaced after 7 years as it was run excessively. It still pumped, but was beginning to slow down during major rain storms. The cast iron pumps have a better warranty so those are the ones to install.

Company stands behind product,
This review is from: Wayne CDU800 1/2 HP Cast Iron Submersible Sump Pump (Tools & Home Improvement)
I had the same pump for at least three years. There was a buildup of debris blocking the holes so I took it apart. The screws broke. I went to buy some from Wayne and they replaced the whole pump for free, even the shipping. I have had Wayne pumps for years (we have three), they work. I'll buy another when the time comes.

These are great pumps , I have used them in the past and wouldn't use any other brand. They are getting a little pricey but so is everything else these days.

Rec'd item about 24 hours after ordering online, even though there was no rush and I didn't request (or pay for) any special shipping. Seems to be very high quality product; working well for a couple of weeks now (too soon to comment on longevity). Modified a bit (with a spacer on wire above float) to turn on at about 7 1/2" instead of about 9", but think I'll go back to around 8" or 8 1/2" as I think it cycles on and off a bit too quickly for what I want. What a pleasure to find something actually made in the USA!

lack of instructions,

Perhaps it's because I purchased a refurbished product that no instructions were included. after I attempted to used the pump, and it failed, I contacted the manufacturer and learned that the minimum outlet was one and one quarter inches. I had attached a one inch outlet so I could attach a garden hose. When I increased the outlet to one and one half inch it still failed. (overheated and shut itself down). Because of my ignorance I may have done irreparable damage.
I was very pleased with the rapid delivery of the pump when I ordered it, however.
