Grade 4-7AOn the Ice with Wayne Gretzky by Matt Christopher (Little, pap. 1997) is a veritable play by play description of the career of hockey's "Great One" from it's beginning through 1996. Gretzky began playing organized hockey at the age of six. Christopher details both the positives and negatives of his swift rise to fame. His phenomenal success led to jealousy from some of his teammates parents and at the age of 14 he was even booed by a crowd of people from his home town. But, hockey always came first in Gretzky's life, and the young man persevered. This perseverance eventually led Gretzky to win nine MVP awards, while leading his teams to four Stanley Cup championships. He holds more than 30 NHL records. This recording details the games that led to all these successes and the disappointments that came along the way are detailed. Well-paced narration is done by Richard M. Davidson.AStephanie Gall Miller, Boulder City Library, NV
