1.0 out of 5 stars Remove 'Broadcast Sticky Intents' !!! June 29, 2012
By Gerona
The permission to 'Broadcast Sticky Intents' allows this program to send data to another program without any security involved.

'Open network sockets' is for accessing the internet.

The developer should explain how these two permissions will be used...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great concept, needs a little fine tuning though June 29, 2012

This is a moderately entertaining thinking game. It's a variation of a "Peg Game". In this version you have a board with some empty spaces and some spaces have ladybugs on them. You jump over ladybugs checkers style, eliminating the jumped ladybug. Your goal is to have only one at the end. It's much harder than it looks!

This particular game is very simple. There is no menu or options. When you open it up the screen goes right to the first board. There is a question mark you can hold to have the instructions pop up. There are ladybugs on either side of that, they move you from level to level. I'm really disappointed that there's no way of tracking your best scores. If you want to record your score so you have something to beat, or if you want to remember a really great score you got, tough luck. I also have no idea why internet access is needed for this game since there is absolutely no internet aspect to this game. There is no way to turn the sound off, but it's only a small popping sound when you jump over ladybugs.

Overall, it's not a bad game. If the permissions weren't questionable, the volume was adjustable and there was some method of tracking scores, I'd be happy to give this a 5 star rating. I just have higher expectations for paid games than free ones.

1.0 out of 5 stars permissions June 29, 2012
By inigo
No need for 'broadcast sticky intents'. Could pose a security issue by doing so.
Passing on this one. Im sure I can find another peg board game without excessive permissions.

2.0 out of 5 stars I used to be a non believer too June 29, 2012
I used to think " hey internet access what can that hurt" well i downloaded some FAOTD last week with sticky intent.... now my yahoo mail gets over 199 spams a day (it's like my new game, destroy the spams) all with my name on them. And I got the bonus of push notifications and accesses my gps.(had to turn it off) so without a reason for the access I will NOT be installing this or any other app like it.. Amazon wise up and drop leach vendors. Now I get the pleasure of reformating my 650 dollor tablet, and losing all my data just to get my gps back...........P.S yahoo just threatened to delete my account (had for 5 years) due to spamming... like it's my fault. Thanks Amazon, now I'm a believer........

It's the game of Peg that uses 24.97MB of Internal Storage with no SD card support. For what? This app only has 15 levels! Only 15! I've had free versions of Peg that have had over 75 levels and were 1/10 of the size. It just makes no sense--is the 24MB+ for the fancy graphics? Oh, wait--what fancy graphics? It has a Ladybug skin--so what! Is that worth all the storage usage? I say: NO! And the lack of SD card support is just an insult (adding it is SO easy to do).

Also, what's up with the permissions? Both Internet Access and Broadcast Sticky Intents. Again, I ask: for what? There is absolutely no user interface/interaction that would need these permissions--no leader board, no "rate us" button, not even a "see our other games" section--nothing at all. I'm not saying this is any kind of spyware or the like, but I am saying it's a sign of bad/lazy/sloppy programming.

To summarize: A bloated storage hog with a minimal number of levels (15) that has unneeded permissions. This is just a sloppy app.

1.0 out of 5 stars Permissions? June 29, 2012
Have to agree. Without an explanation for these permissions, I'm not even going to dl it. Why can't games like this just be able to stand on their own without permissions to access internet and send data? Seems suspect to me.

3.0 out of 5 stars Why Broadcast sticky intents? for a game like this? June 29, 2012

LadyBug Pop Puzzle is simple yet effective puzzle game with 15 levels. The Game-play is nice good colorful graphics but I fail to understand why developer decided to have a puzzling permission requirement to Broadcast sticky intents!

Let me try to educate what these really are and voice my concerns for this simple yet dangerous permission request.

Note: portions of this information is extracted from the internet wiki on permissions found on ehow.

Broadcasts are some sorts of announcements sent to Android apps within your device. for example When your battery gets low or the screen turns off etc; etc; That announcement goes out to all applications. Your Android device's operating system initiates most broadcasts, but individual apps may do it too. If an app receives data that's available to other applications, it will contact and inform them. For the announcement to reach the apps, it has to go first to a broadcast receiver, an application component that handles the messaging system, usually without notifying users what it's doing. - Big issue right? - may be... read on...

Secondly,

Because of the good "Virtualization" AKA isolation the Android environment imposes between its various installed applications, one app cannot directly contact another app's broadcast receiver. Instead, the app notifies the Android device with an "Intent" what it is going to do. An Intent basically is a message to either "activate" an app or activate one of its components, such as the receiver for example. The Intent simply defines the message that's about to be broadcast - that the screen is bright, for example, or to request access to the speaker etc;

Now read the "STICKY" Part...

This is a cute fun and challenging game. Wasn't quite sure what to expect but although it's an old, old game - the fun colors and different designs make it enjoyable.

This game is good if you are trying to pass some time or keep yourself occupied in an awkward situation. It isn't a TON of fun, but it does alright.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty 'meh'
It's the standard "jump a peg" game, using ladybugs as the pieces. Not much to it, other than the ability to start the game with a variety of layouts, instead of just the normal... Read more

Downloaded the free version yesterday, with much higher reviews, but can't get it to work. Also, there are no instruction and options for this game!? Very disappointed.
