Whether you need just a standby 'in case' or a pump to get rid of the water every season, this will do just fine.

I have have nothing against refurbished or "reconditioned" items. Most times they are a great deal, and it's hard to tell the difference from new. This time is different though. The pump and pedestal I received looks well used, especially the pedestal. It has many scratches and even chips on the bottom. This same pump brand new sells for only about $20 more. I thought...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good pump, April 12, 2008
This review is from: Wayne RECONDITIONED 57032-RP1 1/3 HP 2,800 GPH Pedestal Sump Pump (Tools & Home Improvement)
Whether you need just a standby 'in case' or a pump to get rid of the water every season, this will do just fine.
As a homeowner with 3 sumps and both submersible and the pedestal, I find I prefer the pedestal style.

Why?

First, I never liked the idea of having an electrical device under water, there's just too many issues with this over a long term that can cause leakage into the motor or a dangerous hot electrical issue. Second, due to the design of the float and its non-adjustability- your sump has to be about a foot deeper than you ever want the water to be- because the whole pump is pretty much underwater to the top before it ever kicks on.
=
However, the pedestal style also has some issues, one is it sticks up as you can see in the image, the motor HAS to be above water, and some may not want to have the motor sticking up taking space maybe above the floor in a small basement- box it in if you like and use the top of the box for something, but the pedestal beats the submersible hands down- the motor never sees water and the best part is the float is adjustable, that means you can adjust it to draw the water down really low- right to the top of the impeller housing which is around 3" unlike the submersible which will always leave about 10" of water in the pit.

I had one of the submersibles not turn on last week, I had to jiggle the float switch a few times to get it to work again, now it works fine, still, I would trust the above water pedestal style much more for reliability and safety.

The other issue with the pedestal is, it is very unstable and top heavy, so be absolutely sure when you install it to provide something to HOLD it in place, could be a metal bracket or stout piece of wood, doesn't matter as long as that is anchored to something and the pump's shaft or motor is anchored to it- even if it's only heavy wire, large hose clamp etc- it's just to keep the unit from tipping over or twisting when it turns on.

So with those things in mind- the features and issues, select the one that best suits your needs and situation, I plan to replace my two Wayne submersibles with pedestals.
If you have a super critical issue and need absolute reliability, install TWO pumps, two pedestals whose floats are set at different heights, just in case one fails for any reason, the other is a backup- well worth the insurance if you have a situation where things will be destroyed if the pump ever fails- ALL machines eventually fail keep that in mind!

Lastly, though it's hard to get around any more, the units have a sticker that says "Made in China"

1.0 out of 5 stars unclean, shipped straight from the sump basin, November 24, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Wayne RECONDITIONED 57032-RP1 1/3 HP 2,800 GPH Pedestal Sump Pump (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought it, because it was sold by Amazon and not 3rd party.
The pump was sold as "reconditioned", but I was expecting it to be cleaned and inspected.
The product received was covered in mud. Looks like it was taken out of the basin and shipped.

The pump and pedestal I received looks well used, especially the pedestal. It has many scratches and even chips on the bottom. This same pump brand new sells for only about $20 more. I thought about returning it, but it does work, and will only be used in case of emergency. If you want to save a few bucks, then it may be worth it to you, but I was not expecting to receive a reconditioned pump that looks like it was used for some time, and was just boxed up and sent out. Seeing how some other people got pumps that were in "like new" condition, it may just be hit or miss.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good as factory-new!, February 15, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Wayne RECONDITIONED 57032-RP1 1/3 HP 2,800 GPH Pedestal Sump Pump (Tools & Home Improvement)
Just as good as the Wayne pumps I was replacing. What a great Amazon deal!! My Wayne sump pumps run virtually all winter - year after year with nary a problem. These reconditioned pumps look and perform as good as new. They tend to stand taller than some other brands, so that allows them to be used in a deeper sump and/or keeps the motor higher off the floor - both good features for a pedestal pump in a flooding situation.

My only complaint is neither Wayne, nor any other brand I know of, has found a way to quiet the float rod rattle noise when it runs - hence 4 of 5 stars. My past experience tells me these pumps should be around for years of reliable service at less than the cost of getting just one at my local Ace Hardware.

This sump pump lasedt less than a week and then there were problems with the switch turning on the motor. Spend a little money and get something of quality. You won't regret it when your basement stays dry.

2.0 out of 5 stars Worked for two days, July 2, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Wayne RECONDITIONED 57032-RP1 1/3 HP 2,800 GPH Pedestal Sump Pump (Tools & Home Improvement)
Worked for two days, then the impeller stopped spinning. It worked very well for those two days, but the design needs some adjusting. A plastic impeller on a metal shaft doesn't work well. Return for refund underway.

4.0 out of 5 stars Broken Switch, April 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Wayne RECONDITIONED 57032-RP1 1/3 HP 2,800 GPH Pedestal Sump Pump (Tools & Home Improvement)
The pump I received was in like new condition, the only problem was that the switch arm was broken off of the switch. After I replaced the pump switch (thanks Wayne) the pump performed flawlessly.

It arrived with a broken switch. I assume was broken when they repackaged it in the original box and put in the hard padding. I only have option of refund because they say there is no replacement. If there is no replacement, why is this ad still on? So I have to repack it and drive 18 miles to ship back or I have to pay to mail back.

5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic, March 9, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Wayne RECONDITIONED 57032-RP1 1/3 HP 2,800 GPH Pedestal Sump Pump (Tools & Home Improvement)
Great product, I am really glad I got one of these. After seeing how well the first one worked, I actually got a second to keep as a back up. They last a long time, especially since these are not submerged pumps. Just make sure you follow code and hook up a back flow preventer on the hose going out. Mine has been turning on every 30-60 minutes over the last month. There was a ton of snow and rain this winter and the water table is really high.

If your like me and you don't want to permanently attach it to the bottom of the sump pump pit, and want to be able to quickly remove it for cleaning and such, this is what I did. Go to your local hardware store (home depot/Lowes) and buy a big 12x12 cement patio stone. Then either use heavy duty screws to attach it to the stone, or tie it on with about 8 to 12 individual nylon cords (they don't fall apart if submerged in water). I did the cord method, and it was free since I grabbed some of the stuff they give you to tie wood and large item to your car.

Oh and one other reason to buy more than one pump at such a good price. One time last year our city and the surrounding area had so much trouble with water that everyone in the area had their sewer lines backing up. The city of Boston actually ended up dumping sewage into the Charles river it got so bad. Since I have a slop sink in the basement, the sink was filling up too. I took my spare pump and set it up in the sink so if the worst case happened and the sewer level kept rising I would be able to pump it out of the house before it over flowed into my basement. It turned out not to get that high, but I was really glad to have the extra pump on hand.

Just installed pump today, came out of box looking brand new with all parts accounted for, pump has work flawlessly and quietly so far. Amazon has yet to disappoint when an order is from amazon.
