Format: DVD
The first four tracks focus on Wayne with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers; the last performance is the Miles Davis Quintet from '67 w/ Herbie, Ron, and the steamrolling Tony Williams, who drives and whips these guys like they were wild mustangs (or red-headed step-children). Unfortunately, the sound and audio isn't great, but technology had its own limitations built into recordings such as these. The rarity more than makes up for these misgivings, so if you're a completist, you have to dive in. But I would recommend picking up the two 'Jazz Icons' dvd's of Art's where the sound and quality (and two of these performances) are far superior and a similiar pricepoint instead. The same goes for the Miles take - it's available in superior quality all around (and the entire taped show) on 'Around Midnight', and this belongs in every jazzbo's collection. That said, any chance to see these magnificent legends in any form is alright by me, as I believe Jazz was never so alive, exciting, vital and ground-breaking as it was in the late 50's-late 60's. But what do I know?
