1.0 out of 5 stars Predictable
I read alot of suspense thrillers/"who done it's" and this was predictable from beginning to end. I did enjoy the character of Marvin but that was about it. By the 3rd chapter, you knew exactly how the rest of the book was going to turn out. However, I did read the entire book even though I could have stopped at he beginning and told you exactly what would...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Real Page-Turner, November 11, 2003
This review is from: Wayne's Dead (Paperback)
A serial killer who murders, then mutilates victims and writes "Wayne's Dead" on the wall in their blood. A jaded homicide investigator who is distracted from the investigation by his love affair with a peripheral witness. A psychologist who struggles with his indecision regarding whether or not to contact the police about his patient, the killer. A beautiful young woman who loves the lead investigating detective intensely yet harbors dark secrets. Does the serial killer actually suffer from MPD or not? You decide.

I read this book in one day - the story moves quickly and held my attention throughout the book with characters you love and those you hate. The dialogue seems real-life, some of the scenes are realistically grisly, and the love affair between Jackson and Gillian intense. Reminds me of the Davenport series by John Sandford.

Great read. I highly recommend this one.

And you all were right.

This book was a captivating read from start to finish. I couldn't put it down. It is a rather short novel but very good. I felt the characters were well drawn and eventually, I did guess the perp at about the first or second chapter. A good mystery that was very good but in a class of its own. I wish there were more books out there by this author that I can find. Thanks to your reviews, I am glad to have read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spine Tingling Thriller, October 15, 2003
By
This review is from: Wayne's Dead (Paperback)
After reading this author's other two books, I made sure I had enough time to read "Wayne's Dead" without interruption before starting. Again, I was drawn into the story from the first and remained engrossed throughout. I can't decide which of her books I prefer, they're all that good. But if you're a thriller lover, this book will not disappoint. It moves like a "Law and Order" script - fast and succinct, no lapses or dull parts. The charcterization is the best, the dialogue freshly real and gritty, and with vivid scenes. The romantic story within the murder investigation is a real bonus. French writes kind of like a cross between John Sandford and Elmore Leonard.

I won't give a summary since that's been done already and can only add this is a mesmerizing look at a serial killer suffering from MPD and the frantic search by the investigators to track their killer before another attorney falls prey.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Will Not Want to Put This Book Down!, July 15, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Wayne's Dead (Paperback)
"Wayne's Dead" by Christy Tillery French is one of the best psychological thrillers I've ever read. The setting is Knoxville,TN, and the book tracks the investigation into a serial killer who has begun to commit murders there, only leaving one single clue behind at each crime scene: the words "Wayne's Dead" written on the wall in blood, using a severed body part from the deceased (I'll let you read the book to find out what the body part is).

This book also allows the reader to explore the mental illness behind the serial killer, why the killer murders and mutilates the victims, and what the serial killer is thinking via the psychologist who is treating the killer.

French is great at dialogue, developing her characters. She is not stingy in giving information into the investigation and shows knowledge of forensic science, leaving me wondering if she has worked in this field.

I thought I had who the killer was figured out, then decided I didn't, and was kept guessing until French actually revealed the person - a shock, believe me!

I guaranty you will love this book. It's enthralling and edifying, and you'll be talking about it afterward. A great read by an author who I predict will break out and become a best-seller.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Won't Forget This Book!, July 22, 2003
This review is from: Wayne's Dead (Paperback)
I'm still thinking about "Wayne's Dead", even though I finished it several days ago. I was hooked at the prologue and read the book through with interest. The serial killer is brutal and the chapters with the psychologist are great. The mental illness MPD is realistically portrayed. But the question remains: did the killer suffer from this disorder or was it all a ruse? I hope to see a follow-up to this book, or at least to see another book featuring Jackson Daniels. I want to see him redeemed. Great psychological thriller and one I highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping Psychological Thriller!, November 11, 2002
By
This review is from: Wayne's Dead (Paperback)
Hats off to Christy French! She has written an exciting psychological thriller with her newest book, Wayne's Dead. Her characters are authentic, her dialogue is accurate and real with a slight flavor of Southern regional phrasing appropriate to he book's setting - Tennessee. Her research into Multiple Personality Disorder is scholarly, convincing, and text-book accurate, giving the plot a gripping and frightening account of murder and mutilation of the worst kind. The reader is kept on the edge of his seat while the story develops into a maze of turns and twists as the authorities seek to solve the bizarre murders perpetrated by a demented or demented individuals. A highly recommended read for lovers of psychological thrillers!

5.0 out of 5 stars Enthralling Psychological Thriller!, July 5, 2002
This review is from: Wayne's Dead (Paperback)
I became a fan of this author after reading her first book, "Chasing Horses," which is a romantic comedy, and took advantage of her publisher's prepublication offer. I was surprised to find she had written in a totally different category with this book, her second, which is on the other end of the spectrum from comedy, proving that Ms. French has the ability to write about either "light" or "dark" issues and write well.

The author's style is unique, and once again she has written a book which moves at a fast pace and kept me interested throughout - in fact, I read this one in one sitting. A fantastic book that lets the reader peek into the mind of serial killer suffering from multiple personality disorder, while keeping the reader guessing throughout as to who the killer actually is.

I read where her agent compared the book to "Basic Instinct." Take it from me, this book is better!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent story, August 4, 2004
This review is from: Wayne's Dead (Paperback)
As a new author myself, The Dead Angel (Publish America), I was pleased with Christy Tillery French's work on this story. The characters are portrayed well, but not overdone. I agree with an earlier reviewer that many authors get lost in too much description and tedious detail. The story flows well and held my interest from beginning to end. Kudos to you, Christy, and thanks for a good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Realism, June 1, 2004
This review is from: Wayne's Dead (Paperback)
Jackson Daniels is a man with an edge, a man used to being in control of his feelings and his investigations. When a brutal serial killer begins preying on attorneys in Jackson's city, his world spins out of control, even more so after he meets and falls in love with Gillian McKenzie. Jackson finds himself caught between his intense love affair with Gillian and his frantic search for the serial killer who is professional enough to leave a scene sans foresic evidence.

Jackson's partner, Marvin, adds a light touch to this otherwise dark thriller. The characterizations are great, the Southern dialogue realistic, and the premise for the story one I could easily believe to be true.

This is a story that moves at a fast pace and doesn't let up until the end. Make sure you have time to read this one all the way through, because you won't want to put it down once you start.

5.0 out of 5 stars Realistic, April 17, 2004
By
This review is from: Wayne's Dead (Paperback)
I really like the premise for this book - a MPD serial killer who takes precautions (antihistamines, shaving, etc.) so as not to leave evidence at the murder scenes. The symbolic killings are understandable, the mental disorder clearly portrayed, and the brutal killer chilling.

French has a real penchant for quirky characters, so throws Marvin into the mix - an investigating detective who offers some comedic relief throughout the book. I really enjoyed this character. Jackson Daniels reminded me of a young Lucas Davenport from the Sanford Prey series - brooding, with an edge.
