5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant self-esteem enhancement resource, November 15, 2004
As a former founding member of the National Association for Self-Esteem, I've often found myself reading and reviewing self-esteem books, curricula and other materials. Many are of the "let's get the kids to feel good" variety or even worse. This book is lightyears beyond that. It's a really thoughtful compendium of classroom-tested techniques for helping students to explore and enhance their self-esteem and to do so with the guidance of adults: parents, teachers and counselors.

When we get one more horror story in the news about young people doing some destructive act or engaging in self-destructive behavior, I'm again saddened that books of this quality are not in the hands of every teacher in our nation. I believe if these kinds of strategies were in use more consistently, we'd see a real decline in those negative stories and a perceptible rise in stories of children engaging in self-development and community service.

This is a must read book for anyone concerned with education of young people in America. It's extremely practical as well as thought provoking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent teaching manual!, January 4, 2011
By
This is an excellent teaching manual for teachers of all grade levels. Jack Canfield and Frank Siccone present concise lessons to develop self-esteem and responsibility. The lessons are peppered with amusing cartoons, and provide step-by-step activities. This should be required reading for all teachers and coaches.
