5.0 out of 5 stars Dietitian's kudos for "101 ways", July 7, 2001

As a Registered Dietitian who uses a cognitive behavioral approach to help clients change their eating habits, I recommend starting new habits to replace (or displace) the old habits that interfere with current health and nutrition goals. Now that I have found Nancy Butcher's book, I recommend it to all my clients as an indispensible book to keep on the dinner table... It is a practical "how-to" book and a wonderful evening companion for anyone trying to break the evening snacking ritual.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly surprised, April 1, 2007
I grabbed this book because I started a low-calorie diet program about 3 weeks ago and was hoping for some extra motivation. To my surprise, this skinny little book actually had some very good advice. There were also lots of motivating quotes, fantastic snack ideas, and creative home beauty remedies. It's basically full of fantastic ideas for things to do in the evenings when you should be done eating. It's fairly easy to read and I actually spent an evening reading this instead of eating.

I would definitely get this if you are a dieter who's having a hard time making the transition from snacking-without-thinking, to following a scheduled eating plan. My one complaint is the book tends to mention fattening food items often (e.g., "You want to sit in front of the TV and chow down on a bowl of vanilla fudge ice cream, but ..." [paraphrase]), which only makes my tummy growl. :) A very minor caveat, that's probably only a problem because I'm still fairly new to serious dieting and am not used to denying myself anything!
