Book Description

"Wickedly fun!"
--Romantic Times

"Clever writing, a high sensuality factor and an unfettered imagination..."
--Publishers Weekly

Jazz can't decide whether to scorch him with a fireball or jump into bed with him.

Jasmine Tremaine, a witch who can't stay out of trouble.

Nikolai Gregorivich, a drop-dead gorgeous vampire cop on the trail of a serial killer.

The sizzling love affair between Jazz and Nick has been off-again, on-again-for about 300 years. Mostly off, lately. But now Nick needs Jazz's help, and while Jazz and Nick try to figure out their own hearts and resist their ever-increasing attraction, they must steer clear of a maniacal killer with super-supernatural powers. They are surrounded by a hilarious cast of oddball paranormal characters, including Irma, the chain-smoking ghost who haunts Jazz's sports car, Dweezil, her ghoul of a boss, and Fluff and Puff, a pair of bunny slippers with sharp teeth and short tempers (watch your ankles)!

From Publishers Weekly

When she isn't getting into trouble with her oddball companions—a vicious pair of bunny slippers and a frustrated ghost who haunts her sports car—hot-tempered witch Jazz Tremaine earns money lifting hexes and driving limos for Southern California's All Creatures Limo Service. When the vampire cop she's loved and hated for centuries, Nikolai Gregorivich, seeks her help in catching a serial vampire slayer, Jazz fends him off to focus on her own problems (the sleazeball limo service owner; a client who generates supernaturally disgusting odors). She can't resist her sexy vamp lover for long, though, especially as clues in the killings point to an evil figure from her past. With clever writing, a high sensuality factor and an unfettered imagination, Wisdom makes a sparkling entry into lite urban paranormals. (Mar.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully enchanting! February 23, 2008
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I was lucky--I got to read the book before it hit the shelves, and I loved it. Jazz is a heroine who is quirky, fun, and just warped enough to love--and her world is filled with fascinating creatures, bunny slippers who'd give the vorpal rabbit a run for his money, and one sexy, hot vampire love interest. The story holds up, the pace is quick and breezy, and I didn't put it down till I finished it.

I can hardly wait for Linda's next book. If you love paranormal romance with a slightly twisted sense of humor (that only adds to the charm of the characters), then this is the book for you! (I recommend this book especially to fans who also love the works of MaryJanice Davidson, Annette Blair, Candace Havens, Charlaine Harris, and other light-hearted, enchanting paranormal romances).

STORY BRIEF:
Witches, vampires, werewolves, trolls, and other creatures live among humans. Jazz is a witch. She makes a living removing curses and driving a limo. Nick is a vampire who works as a private investigator. Nick and Jazz have had a lustful on and off relationship for about 300 years - mostly off. She frequently gets mad at him. Someone is killing vampires, and Nick wants Jazz to help him solve the problem.

REVIEWER'S OPINION:
It took a long time to get going. I was impatient for something to start happening. Nick visited Jazz several times asking for her help. But things kept delaying any action. Jazz had to do this, she had to do that, she kept telling Nick to come back later. This was going on for more than half the book. Finally they started to do something about the killer. Overall it was ok, just not a must read. Don't expect much relationship development between Jazz and Nick. They knew each other in the past and broke up before this story even started. This is more of a lustful coworker relationship than romance. I had a problem with the title. She was not hexing her lover in different ways. She threw fireballs at him once and missed. That was it. Jazz was an interesting character, but Nick and Krebs could have used something more.

The best parts were the fun and interesting side characters. I loved Fluff and Puff - the bunny slippers with sharp teeth and short tempers. Jazz would keep them in line by lifting her foot. They were afraid of heights.

CAUTION SPOILER:
The ending scene with bad guy Clive could have been better. Jazz and Nick are chained and powerless with Clive standing over them doing harm. Yet Jazz and Nick keep telling Clive they're going to kill him. These empty threats weren't doing anything for me.

DATA:
Story length: 364 pages. Swearing language: strong. Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: 6. Estimated number of sex scene pages: 15. Setting: current day mostly Los Angeles, California. Copyright: 2008. Genre: paranormal romance.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun and funky paranormal romance/mystery April 8, 2008
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I enjoy the vampire books of Charlaine Harris and MaryJanice Davidson so this book was just the way I like my paranormal books -- offbeat and funny. The characters of Jazz and Nickolai were interesting and likeable but the secondary characters really made the book interesting. Irma, the cranky 1950s era chain-smoking ghost stuck in Jazz's vintage car grew on me over the course of the book as did Jazz's mortal roommate.

The author found a way to make the presence of witches, vampires, bloody-thirsty bunny slippers and various other non-human life forms seem almost normal.

I look forward to reading the next Jazz book.

More About the Author

When I sold to Silhouette books on my wedding anniversary in 1979 I didn't expect to get this far. I love what I do and can't imagine doing anything else. I'm married with two white mini Schnauzers, one parrot, and a demented tortoise. We live in Southern California near San Diego in a town that's provided fodder for some of my stories. I like to say that when we moved here twenty years ago there were three romance writers. Now there is only me and to date I have not been considered a suspect.

You'll also notice I'm putting my backlist books up for the Kindle along with many more found at www.joyridebooks.com that's also for the Kindle. A lot of my fans have asked if my past books will ever be available as e-books and I'm so glad I was able to do that for them. So keep checking my book list here and you'll see more showing up!

My Hex series are the books of my heart. The ones I've wanted to write for a long time and so glad to see out there. Many readers are confused by the two Demon titles and different cover looks. They're a part of the Hex series, still the disgraced witches from the Witches Academy, just with a different look. And yes, more are coming along with some novellas featuring the first witches.

There's times I think I enjoy writing the creatures more than the characters. And probably why my Fluff and Puff bunny slippers tend to never be where I left them!
