5.0 out of 5 stars You can make it happen!
I have the privilege of working with Phil, and I can tell you firsthand that he is exactly as he portrays himself in this book. My suggestion would be to read the entire book first and then go back to work on the action steps. Keep in mind that this is not a book; it is a workbook. Reading Phil's insights serve as a springboard for your own ideas.

3.0 out of 5 stars Obvious read
The book is easy to read. Almost too easy to read. The author put a number of ideas everyone wants to have into a book. Almost stating the obvious catch phrases. I am glad I read the book but I did not take a lot out of it.

I have the privilege of working with Phil, and I can tell you firsthand that he is exactly as he portrays himself in this book. My suggestion would be to read the entire book first and then go back to work on the action steps. Keep in mind that this is not a book; it is a workbook. I am normally a skeptic about books of this type. However, Phil writes in a manner that captures the essence of concepts that are so simple, we often overlook them. I have not changed my mind in general about these books, but this one stands out from the rest.

Take the challenge and read the book. I then encourage you to e-mail Phil and tell him what you think. Ask him for a suggestion. Ask him for a resource. He is very approachable and genuinely interesting in helping all of us reach greatness.

Life throws us all curve balls. Phil gives you a unique and insightful perspective on how to deal with this. One of the most valuable things I learned was to stop making excuses for why I cannot do things. I have the power to be proactive and make things happen, or, as Phil would say, Make it Great!

4.0 out of 5 stars Roadmap to Greatness, June 12, 2007
This review is from: 10 Ways to Make It Great! (Paperback)
In this compact work book, the author provides a roadmap for "making it great." Tips include things like Never Stop Learning, Finish what you start, and my favorite, Work Hard Now... or Work Hard Forever!

I read through the book and then went back and completed all 22 action steps. I plan to revisit it to gauge my progress and tweak my plans as necessary.

The author has a genuine interest in helping others succeed. If the actions are followed, this book will help.

This review is from: 10 Ways to Make It Great! (Paperback)
Phil Gerbyshak's "10 Ways to Make It Great" is an excellent addition to anybody's business library. He's taken the best of human nature and condensed it into an easy-to-use handbook of knowledge, anecdotes, and thought-provoking exercises which can be digested over an airplane ride or over months of self-assessment, whichever the reader chooses. Gerbyshak's humble approach to life partnered with his energized quest to make things constantly better pours over into his writing. The reader cannot help but come away with a great sense of self and a renewed purpose for what to do next. This book is the cross-section of Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and Warren's Purpose-Driven Life, condensed to fit into today's schedules, yet powerful enough to pack the punch of a message that people still need to hear. Well Done!!!

You know Phil Gerbyshak is a GREAT guy as soon as you open this book. His enthusiasm and positive attitude shine throughout this work. Phil doesn't offer easy answers, but it does ask some great questions for taking charge of your own life wherever you see the opportunity to get beyond your own status quo. Through short examples and new frameworks, readers are given an action plan which, if followed, can't help but lead to new outcomes. If you're looking for results for a work team, a sports team, or just yourself, 10 Ways to Make It Great gives you new ideas and resources to do just that. Those who follow Phil's action plans can't help but shift their lives from "good enough" to GREAT!

5.0 out of 5 stars Could not be easier to read and implement!, June 9, 2008
This review is from: 10 Ways to Make It Great! (Paperback)
I have the privledge of knowing Phil personally after hearing him speak at a local professional organization function. I was so energized after meeting Phil that I had to read his book right away. I never put it down until I was complete. It was such an easy read and I was able to start the Action Steps immediately. I know we are all busy but that is the exact point of this book - make it a point to find the time to read it and start to implement the Action Steps - you will be glad you did.

I don't read many books of this type, but this one is a winner! It's either a quick and insightful read, or a book you can spent a lot of time with, working on the exercises and thinking. Highly recommended for everyone!

Phil Gerbyshak breaks down the concept of 'taking control of your life' in 10 steps. Phil doesn't bog you down in theory, he gives you simple ideas that you can apply right away. You can tell he cares about helping you 'make it great'. There are action steps and exercises at the end of each chapter which will allow you to get started. There are nuggets in every chapter such as setting goals, prioritizing tasks, analyzing your personality, networking tips and motivational advice. If you want direction to take your life and career to the next level, I would highly recommend buying this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Make it happen, September 2, 2008
This review is from: 10 Ways to Make It Great! (Paperback)
This is a great little book (pun intended). It's well set out, to the point and gets a real message across - how to better oneself, now!

I liked the fact that the author practices what he preaches. Each of the 10 chapters has one key idea with an action step at the end of the chapter for immediate implementation. If you've read a self-development book before, you may have already heard of many of these ideas. However, Gerbyshak describes them in a way that makes it easy to relate to, and most importantly, to implement. His positive attitude and sense of humour shine throughout.

This is an ideal book for a procrastinator such as myself, who has a problem getting started - the book is easy to read in one sitting. Once you're inspired to take some action, you can go back and implement the "Action Steps" (there are only 22 of these in total and they all build on one another).

This book would be particularly appropriate for people who do not normally read books. If you know of someone who could use some help with their personal development, confidence or merely time management, this would be a great gift. Highly recommended.
