Review

I have had the pleasure of knowing Jenny Grothe for the last three years. I have known Jenny in a variety of capacities such as a competitor and friend. I can tell you, without hesitation, she is one of the sweetest, honest and creative people I have ever met. I am delighted that she has written this cookbook since oatmeal plays a huge part in my everyday nutrition. I look forward to my morning oatmeal everyday and can't wait to try some new recipes to spice it up! Thanks Jenny! --Michelle Battista, IFBB Figure Pro

During competition season, oatmeal was my sanity! It was the only thing I refused to give up. I can eat oatmeal every day for the rest of my life and never get tired of it! --Michelle Shepherd, WNBF Pro and 2007 WNBF World Championship Figure Tall, 2007 INBF World Championship Fit Body Short

About the Author

Jenny's life changed in the fall of 2007. That's when she decided to drop 60 pounds, trade unhealthy habits for good ones , and start leading her life rather than letting her life lead her. It was at that time she learned about clean eating. Since then she has sought out and tried hundreds of recipes. Finding that most of her tried-and-true recipes of the past needed tweaking in order to be healthy, she discovered a new passion: experimenting. She is now the author and administrator of the popular Facebook Fan Page, 'Recipes for Gals in Figure and Bodybuilding,' which boasts more than 17,000 fans and grows by an average of 500 each week. It was through the countless suggestions from her fans, who loved her daily recipes, that she finally decided to create a cookbook. When she's not trying a new recipe or creating her own, you can find Jenny either at the gym or laying down miles on the road. As an amateur figure competitor, Jenny loves the hard work, determination, and dedication it takes to compete on stage. In the three short years she's been competing, she's brought home 5 trophies. Her new favorite quote is 'My body is my trophy. My placing does not define me.' Jenny is thankful for the journey she's been on and looks forward to what the future holds, believing that all things are possible. May the oatmeal inspiration never cease to end.

I was so excited to get this book to mix up my oatmeal "fillers" but I was very disappointed to find that the majority of the recipes have artificial sweeteners in them, which I do not include in my clean eating lifestyle.

Mostly baked oatmeal...for nearly every fruit combination. All recipes call for a sugar substitute, which is not healthy. But I did see that she uses stevia or xylitol (on one page somewhere, not in the recipes), but thought she should at least address the issues regarding artificial sweetners and natural zero-calorie sweetners...

I am a personal trainer and a figure competitor. I bought this book for several people for christmas, including MY trainer! I love Jen's recipes and send all my clients to her site as well as recommend her book. Oatmeal is the #1 thing I have my clients add into their diet when I start working with them because it is so amazing for your body and staying healthy and balancing out the hormones that affect your metabolism. Adding oatmeal to your diet will yield BIG results. Only problem: who wants to eat plain oats from the barrel? And I DO NOT let my clients eat the processed packaged oatmeal. This book gives you 75 examples of how to make your oatmeal your own and will spark a million ideas to continue tweaking it. Literally, love your oatmeal every day of the year. I wake up dreaming of my oatmeal, it is my first meal on my competition diet and I cannot thank Jen enough for this book. Excellent!!

I've been cooking clean for a long time and I experiment a lot in the kitchen but this book has really opened a door for me. Jenny came up with some awesome recipes and has provided me with some really great jumping off points. In the cookbook Jenny tells her touching story and offers some of her advice giving this cookbook a very warm and positive vibe! To top it off Jenny has an online social networking page where she personally strives to motivate and help her following on a whole, and individually. If you have questions or concerns she is there with advice and answers! Jenny is a genuine person and it really shines through in this cookbook! Love it! The man who isn't so into clean eating even gets excited about his oatmeal in morning these days!

This book has so many wonderful recipes that you would never be disappointed. It's more than just about oatmeal too! Also, Jen is very inspiration to anyone and everyone who is either working out now or just starting out. I live in Pennsylvania and she lives in Utah and I know if I ever have a question, she will answer me. She is just an absolute treasure and so are her recipes. Love her and the book! Great job Jen!

As another reviewer mentioned, there are many recipes that are pretty much identical except for a change in flavor extract or sugar-free syrup. Most of the recipes are for baked oatmeal (30 minutes), and for single servings. I don't like oatmeal done in the oven or Crock-pot (too gluey), and 30 min. of baking time is too long for the mornings -- and heating up the oven for just one serving seems a bit silly besides. (Yes, I know you can simply multiply the ingredients, but then that affects baking time and pan size.) I prefer my oatmeal soaked overnight and then briefly cooked in the microwave. I wish she'd included more oatmeal dishes like bars, healthy cookies or muffins. I think some of the recipes can easily be adapted to the microwave, but others probably wouldn't work.
