5.0 out of 5 stars Bet You Can't Read Just One Idea A Day!
A compact little book with 365 ways to relax. It seems logical enough - start at the beginning of the book, read one idea each day, and put it into practice. I challenge you to do just that. I bet you can't!

The book is simply too compelling. You will read today's suggestion, then peak ahead to see tomorrow's. Then day three's is right there, and you will read it, too...

3.0 out of 5 stars 183 Ways to Push the Author's Hippie Liberal Agenda
Overall, not a bad book, just not what I was expecting. For every "Leg Stretch" muscle relaxation technique is a "gem" such as "recycling is good for the soul" or "Learn to work and play well with others" or my favorite, "Buy Local Produce." Give me a break. So, while the nice suggestions do relax, the obvious attempts to bend readers to her political views undo all...

5.0 out of 5 stars Bet You Can't Read Just One Idea A Day!, September 3, 2001

A compact little book with 365 ways to relax. It seems logical enough - start at the beginning of the book, read one idea each day, and put it into practice. I challenge you to do just that. I bet you can't!

The book is simply too compelling. You will read today's suggestion, then peak ahead to see tomorrow's. Then day three's is right there, and you will read it, too. You'll be hooked and keep reading. But, that's okay; perhaps it's even part of the book's usefulness, because just reading the ideas, interspersed with inspirational quotes, will help relax you.

Oddly enough, I also found the book energized me. Not in a stressful, hurry-up way, but in a creative and motivated way. It gave me a sense of control - a whole mitt full of suggestions for things I could do to relax physically and mentally. How powerful to have all those workable techniques in hand!

Stress and its cranky cronies, anxiety and tension, wear away at us daily as we push ourselves beyond our limits in an increasingly pressured world. How can we combat these complications naturally and positively every day? Those of us without a live-in masseuse will find the answers in 365 WAYS TO RELAX MIND, BODY & SOUL.

Science has proven that stress can make you sick and more than 20 million Americans suffer from stress related illnesses. Many more of us are just exhausted from the frenzied pace of modern lifestyles and Barbara Heller offers cheerful daily tips for relaxing the body, regrouping thoughts, renewing the spirit, and thriving, not just surviving.

Some of the tips are for quick and simple fixes; you're sure to find one that you can do right now - laugh, relive a pleasant thought, or enjoy a cup of tranquil tea (the recipe's included). Others require some planning, such as attending a monthly meditation meeting. And with others, part of the benefit is in the preparation and the on-going ritual, as with designing your personal relaxation training period.

365 WAYS TO RELAX MIND, BODY & SOUL is written by Barbara Heller, M.S.W., a psychotherapist with more than 25 years of experience in women's health care and complimentary medicine. She is also an herbalist and educator. Her advice will inspire you to release your worries. It will help wean you from stressful situations and encourage minor lifestyle adjustments for greater personal peace and well-being.

You need a copy of this book - and you deserve to savor its techniques.

5.0 out of 5 stars A delayed review, November 6, 2000

I recently bought a copy of this book: 365 Ways to Relax - Mind, Body and Soul. It's in my bathroom where I do a lot of good reading. I read a few pages whenever I get in there. This book helps me rethink my busy days, my rushed lifestyle, and reminds me that there is much more to life than work and haste. This book is well worth the investment of eight bucks, and it might even change your whole way of thinking.

5.0 out of 5 stars great little book, November 11, 2000

This little book is packed with a range of stuff, from progressive relaxation, leg stretches, guided imagery and "headache tamers," to valerian tea, sleepy time bath bags and peppermint foot baths. Heller also includes calming quotes from the Zen friendly ("Life is a Good Teacher and Friend," Pema Chodron) to the wisdom of Karl Sagan.

I love this book and keep a copy of it sometimes in my bathroom for a quick read or by the bedside of for some quick advice on relaxing my dragged out body to bed. (and the book doesn't cost a lot so I am planning to buy a lot of them for the holidays as gifts)

5.0 out of 5 stars Isn't It Time To Relax?, July 1, 2010
This review is from: 365 Ways to Relax Mind, Body & Soul (Paperback)
Barbara L. Heller authored a great little book to remind us to relax and enjoy life - you know, make time to appreciate ourselves, our lives and the world around us. I use this little guide all the time.

Published in 2000, this book is still a powerful reminder that we should all make time 365 days a year to relax mind, body and soul.

There are simple activities, inspirational quotations and practical how-to's for pampering yourself each day - 365 days a year. Honestly, I found it difficult to stick with just one suggestion a day because I wanted to read the entire book at once and pick and choose my favorites. It turned out they were all my favorites!

We're so busy during a typical day that we often forget to take just a few minutes to sit back, relax and rejuvenate. Here's one example from the book: "Keep a small notebook for inspiration. Fill it with favorite quotes and words of quiet wisdom. Reap its rewards on a stressful day." As you can see from the example, this little guide is motivating, informative and can easily become part of your daily personal development routine.

5.0 out of 5 stars A user-friendly guide to true rest and relaxation, November 2, 2000
This review is from: 365 Ways to Relax Mind, Body & Soul (Paperback)
This little book has become my favorite bedside reading companion. From "nose alphabets" to herbal recipes, catchy aphorisms to simple and practical suggestions, 365 Ways to Relax Mind Body and Soul has something for everyone. Some of the suggestions made me laugh out loud (see nose alphabets mentioned above) with suprise and delight, others sent me to my garden for materials (see the various herbal remedies.) All the suggestions I have tried so far have worked and I'm pleased to have a good number yet to experience. I plan to give it to everyone on my holiday gift list. It has already made its way to a number of women friends for their birthdays.

Give me a break. So, while the nice suggestions do relax, the obvious attempts to bend readers to her political views undo all that relaxing and make me want to hurl the book across the room. Guess I'll just skip those suggestions that seem to have an agenda rather than actual relaxation in mind. You have been warned.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great tips!, August 22, 2001
This review is from: 365 Ways to Relax Mind, Body & Soul (Paperback)
I admit that I am a sucker for self-help books but this one is truly worth the money. Everything is covered from different types of meditation to fun ideas, like playing Monopoly.

Most of the ideas and tips I would never have considered but they made sense. Like turning off the tv or enjoying a trashy novel. The bit on recycling stuff you don't use made a lot of sense and encouraged me to clean out some clutter. Afterwards, I felt less stress and my house looked better!

Can't wait to try "Do the Opposite" tomorrow!

The thing I like about this book is the condensation of a lot of wisdom into a small space. Stressed out at the office or school or just plain stressed out. This book is small enough to keep with you at all times. What a lifesaver!
