Book Description

October 1996

There are seven distinct ways of teaching and learning: verbal/linguistic, logical/mathematical, visual/spatial, body/kinesthetic, musical/rhythmic, interpersonal, and intrapersonal. In 7 Ways of Teaching the Bible to Children, Barbara Bruce uses these seven learning styles to show you how to meet the various learning needs of each child in your classroom.

The 25 Old and New Testament lessons which are included feature warm-up exercises, scripture readings, activities, and options for tailoring the lesson to all your students' individual learning needs.  Practical advice for discovering each child's learning preferences, reproducible patterns and handouts, and a teacher training session are also included.  The Bible story lessons can be used independently or with existing class curriculum.

5.0 out of 5 stars 7 Ways of Teaching the Bible to Children, December 7, 2000

This review is from: 7 Ways of Teaching the Bible to Children: Includes 25 Lessons, Plus Activities That Satisfy Different Learning Styles (Paperback)
I'm a missionary educator and have found this book to be extremely helpful as a resource in sharing the basic methods of teaching to different kinds of learners so that all will be able to learn something from every lesson. Even though the book focuses on teaching the Bible to younger children, the basic concepts are easily adaptable to all kinds of subject matter and to just about any age level. It is affordable and easy to read and understand. I have found it works cross-culturally with only a minimum of contextualizing. I originally purchased this book as a supplemental resource because of the handouts printed in it, but have discovered it to be a primary resource for the teachers that I am working with, and try to give a copy to each teacher that I train. The only problem I'm having is locating a vender where I'm located. This book is well worth acquiring as a part of your teaching library - whether you are a pastor, Sunday School teacher/superintendent, V.B.S. teacher/director, or public/private school teacher. I've even used the concepts in training deacons to teach and train future deacons; as well as in providing staff development serminars for university professors.

This is a great book which discusses multiple intelligence theory and how you can use recent brain research on how people learn to help yourself become a fantastic teacher. Great resources and ideas, and it will help you stretch and reach those children who have seemed bored or out of touch!
