3.0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK
This book is great for kids. The characters in the story are great. For example Mrs. Drazil sounds like Brazil, and people made fun of her. Another is Miss. Nogard. She can read people's minds or tell they are thinking. The school sounds real fun. My opinion is that this is a great book. I felt great about reading this book. It opened me up to new places and...

"Wayside School Gets a Little Stranger" by Louis Sachar is a hiliarious sequel to "Wayside School is Falling Down" also by Louis Sachar. This story takes place in a quite abnormal school. A school that was supposed to be built thirty classrooms side by side, but instead built thirty classrooms one on top of another.A thirty story building with no nineteenth story. The builder said he was very sorry. In "Wayside School Gets a Little Stranger" we get to meet the characters. There's Sharie who sleeps all day. Kathy who hates everyone. Todd who always get sent home on the kindergarten bus. Ms. Gorf who turns the children into apples, Louis the best yard teacher ever, and a few more teachers and students. In this book, Wayside School is closed to get rid of the........cows! Once the school reopens the fun starts. Doors become goozacks and the children loose their vocies, compleatly. Each chapter in this book gets funnier and stranger. Both books are so funny you won't be able to put them down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wayside School, January 9, 2007
A Kid's Review
Do you like funny books that you cannot get your eye off? Then try Wayside School gets a Little Stranger by Louis Sachar. The book is about a school that closes down for repairs for 243 days and every one of the children who went to the school before get put into a different school.

This book tells you about a class that is on the 30th floor. They have a teacher that is named Miss Jewels but she gets pregnant and has to leave the school for a little bit.

One day there is a new teacher who is the son of a teacher, but he doesn't last. Then another teacher comes and they get rid of her too and then they want to get their old teacher back.

The school has 30 floors but there is no 19th floor. The teacher that works on the 19th floor is supposed to be named Miss Zarves, but if there is 19th floor the children think there can't a Miss Zarves.

So find out how the children get Miss Jewels back or if they get her back, and find out if Miss Zarves really exists. The only way to do is by reading the book; so read the book and I will be very happy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Accessible and funny-- great entertainment, November 3, 2004
Thirty more chapters in the story of Wayside School, which is thirty stories high since it was accidentally built on its side. This is a great book, and probably my favorite in the Wayside School series. The stories are phenomenally quirky, and maintain an upbeat sense of optimism without preaching at all. Nearly all of the chapters work as stand-alone stories, although their degree of interrelatedness grows towards the end. For me, there were two standout stories. In the first, a boy is sent to the counselor because he can't stop himself from pulling Leslie's pigtails. He is hypnotized to stop, but also to see her ears as delicious candy when she uses the word pencil. In the last few paragraphs, Leslie breaks her pencil point, sharpens it, and then drops it beneath Paul's desk, but never uses the word pencil, ending the story without the expected climax. In the other one, a substitute teacher arrives with a third nostril, through which he sucks up the voice of every child as he or she speaks. Eventually the cafeteria worker Miss Mush saves the day with a Pepper-Pie-induced sneezing fit returning things to normal. I am so glad that one of Sachar's books was made into a movie that I enjoyed, because otherwise I would never have heard of him.
The Good and the Bad:
The writing is accessible and funny, to both young people and adults. The level of silliness is perfect, although there is one schmaltzy moment at the end that seemed out of whack with the rest of the book. But since this is an isolated incident, I'll give it a pass; kids will probably eat it up anyhow, and a book of thirty stories can afford to have one strong moral, I suppose.

For 12 years, I've been reading these books to my students and they love them. When I see them check out these books to read on their own, it makes me so happy! I've read this to all my classes from 2nd grade to 5th grade. They absolutely love them!

My grand son, which is 8 years old, and I have had wonderful time reading the whole series.
He began to become familiar with the books last year, and he wanted to have the other 2. I did not have doubts these books are very enjoyable when I heart him laughing a lot while reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS BOOK IS AMAZING!!!, March 8, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Wayside School Gets a Little Stranger (Hardcover)
Ever heard of a thirty story building without a nineteenth floor? Well in the hilarious book Wayside School Gets a Little Stranger by Louis Sachar, that's exactly the case. After closing down the school for repairs, for a very long 242 days, the children return to their school and reunite with their beloved teacher Mrs. Jewels. Happy at first, Mrs. Jewels breaks the news that she is pregnant and needs to depart from the school. The kids have a series of substitutes that are very. . . interesting, to say the least! For instance, on of the substitutes named Mrs. Drazil makes a kid student from 20 years ago do missing work from when she was his teacher! No talking in class has a new meaning. Come on the exciting roller coaster labeled Wayside School and experience the ups and downs of this wonderful fifth grade class.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jump rope rhymes, January 9, 2005
A Kid's Review
This book is so hilarious. Well of course you would know that because if you're reading the sequel you would know how funny the first one is. But anyways, I read this book in the 2nd grade and memorized the jump rope rhyme it has in there and my friends and I would jump rope to it. I still remember that rhyme and this is like 8 years later. Plus it helps that Louis Sachar is one of my favorite authors

4.0 out of 5 stars The Stories Get Even Wackier, January 13, 2002
A Kid's Review
The stories about Mrs. Jewls' class get even wackier in the third book about the school that was built sideways. In "Wayside School Gets A Little Stranger", we start off knowing that Wayside School was closed for 243 days (excuse me if I'm not right). Then it finally re-opens and all the kids are overjoyed. Over the next couple of weeks, Dameon notices something different about Mrs. Jewls. She tells the class she is going to have a baby, so that means they're going to have a substitue teacher (or a couple). The first one, Mr. Gorf, can in-hale people's voices up his nose. The next, Mrs. Drazil, Louis' former teacher, makes Louis civilized and can really be quite mean. The last one, Ms. Nogard, has an ear on her head, and falls in love with Louis. This was a great book and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.
