Metallica does justice.. and more.,
By Lom (Odessa, Ukraine) - See all my reviews
This review is from: We All Love Ennio Morricone (Audio CD)
Being a very long time 'Tallica fan, I would lie if I said their track wasn't the main reason I've got the album in the first place. However, as any other music lover, I did look forward at other music that could have been interesting. And it does appear on this tribute. Yo-Yo Ma's track was enjoyable, Fleming's track too, so were 3 new tracks Ennio threw in for the additional pleasure.
All in all, the album is interesting because it has a good vibe of appreciation of the maestro. Therefore, I would recommend it to anybody, who knows Ennio's work and to others beyond. As of Metallica track. It is nothing of a surprise, because the original song is very well known, and the cover is the true Metallica cover. It sounds very fresh, with little nice guitar solo tweaks, it feels like the guys are in their 20's again, it is done with the same 'not-too-serious' attitude as Garage days where done back in 87. It made me feel good, and that's what matters. It'd be logical if they will play the concert intro themselves for these few Europe shows they have this summer, and I hope to see that happen, since I got the Vienna gig tickets already through the Metclub, hope to get Moscow ones too. Take care and enjoy.

This will DELIGHT Morricone fans!,

Not sure what there is not to love about this disc. The interpretations are unique, sometimes quirky and always interesting; the recording is gorgeous; and Morricone's segues, which he composed and recorded, are very cool and show that much thought and creativity went into the overall production. (Only complaint is the absence of translations for the foreign-language tracks.) After reading some of these reviews, I had doubts about making the purchase. Now I'm so grateful that I did! Highly recommended!

A WONDERFUL TRIBUTE TO ONE OF THE GREATEST FILM COMPOSERS OF OUR TIME,
By
This review is from: We All Love Ennio Morricone (Audio CD)
I am a "die hard" Ennio Morricone fan and have been since 1968, so I can't understand for the life of me why the other reviews for this disk are so negative about this absolutely beautiful album!
I was thrilled to see Ennio finally receive an Academy Award this year! He deserved to receive many Academy Awards over the past 40 years for all his magnificent works. Next to Elmer Bernstein, I consider him my favorite film composer. Many of the selections on this album I had never heard before. Metallica playing "The Ecstacy of Gold" is absolutely reiveting! Andrea Bocelli is a perfect fit to sing Ennio's songs. Incidentally, Mr. Bocelli also sings two of Ennio's otherwise unknown songs on one of his older albums. Unknown to us in the USA only because Ennio has chosen to focus his life's work on mostly Italian film scores. I only wish his scores were more accessable to us living outside of Italy. I have much of his film music, but it's still very hard to find. I truly feel that the genius of Ennio's music will not fully be appreciated until after he is gone from us. So to anyone who really wants to know what a modern film score genius sounds like...BUY THIS ALBUM!!!

Dissapointed in Ennio Marricone's Latest,
By
This review is from: We All Love Ennio Morricone (Audio CD)
This CD was a real disappointment. It was contrived by using famous names to sing songs that should have been orchestred pieces. Yo-Yo-Ma-Plays-Ennio-Morricone was superb and I had expected some of the same quality which is not there.

Absolutely Awful,

This review is from: We All Love Ennio Morricone (Audio CD)
Anyone who has had the pleasure of seeing the maestro in action with his orchestra will know how his music touches the soul. All this album proves is how special the original soundtracks are and how important it is to leave Mr Morricone's original scores as they are. These "cover versions" don't come close in my opinion and putting words to "Deborahs Theme" from Once Upon A Time in America is a crime in my opinion. If your after the works of Ennio Morricone, get the originals. You will not be disappointed.

Morricone Tribute Shows Maestro's Range,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: We All Love Ennio Morricone (Audio CD)
The tremendous range and diversity of Ennio Morricone's prodigious talent is on display in this tribute album by a surprising mix of artists performing their own renditions of the Maestro's work. Andrea Bocelli, Bruce Springsteen, Metallica, Herbie Hancock, Quincey Jones and Yo Yo-Ma are among the performers, and the performances range from good to great (though a couple of them weigh in as simply odd). Celine Dion's vocalization of the haunting theme from "Once upon a Time in America" opens the album, and is better to listen to than it was to watch on the Academy Awards. The music is continuous, with transitions crafted by Morricone himself, who also contributes a couple of the performances. I have only one complaint: the album label and liner notes do not identify the film from which each piece comes. As an intermediate-level Morricone Geek, I can identify most of them--but there are two or three I'd like to know more about.

Why We Love Him?,
This review is from: We All Love Ennio Morricone (Audio CD)
This compact disc is entitled "We All Love Ennio Morricone" who is a productive and prolific composer and musician. Apart from the list of contributors like Celine Dion, Renee Fleming, Bruce Springsteen, Quincy Jones, Metallica, Yo-Yo Ma, Herbie Hancock, and many others on this seventy minutes of music, we get a variety of sounds and voices at times. Ennio Morricone was finally awarded an honorary Academy Award a couple of years ago. It was well-deserved for his contributions to original scores over 500 in films over his movie career.
My only complaint with this compact disc is that it doesn't explain why he is so well-loved by the people who sing and contributed to the compilation. Not even an explanation as to why he is loved in the arts industry, it would have been helpful to have understood his brilliance in music and why is so highly regarded even though his name may not be as famous as his peers. Apart from that exception, I enjoyed listening to the sounds, voices, and the music of Ennio Morricone who would not have made it possible.

We Love Ennio Morricone. Excellent Service from Abe Books,

I am delighted with the CD supplied by Abe Books in Texas - but even happier with the speed with which they dealt with my order. I was told by Amazon by e-mail to expect delivery week commencing 7th March (ie today) but I actually received it on 25th February. Excellent service. Thanks. As far as the CD itself is concerned, I have never thought that anyone could better Ennio Morricone's own versions of his work - and having heard this CD, I still believe that. Nevertheless, Metallica's rendition of The Ecstasy of Gold comes pretty close.......

...for those who would like to know where each piece is from originally:
(as there is surprisingly little information available) 1. "I Knew I Loved You" is "Deborah's Theme" from "Once Upon a Time in America" (1984) 2. "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" (1966) 3. "Once Upon a Time in the West" (1969) 4. "Conradiana" is a new original, written for Andrea Bochelli (1996) 5. "The Ecstasy of Gold" from "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" (1966) 6. "Maléna" (2000) 7. "Come Sail Away" from "Voyage of Terror: The Achille Lauro Affair" (1990) 8. "Gabriel's Oboe" from "The Mission" (1986) 9. "Conmigo" from "Metti, una sera a cena" (1969) 10. "La Luz Prodigiosa" from "The End of a Mystery" (2003) 11. "Love Affair" (1994) 12. "Je Changerais d'Avis" originally a pop song called "Se Telefonando" (1966), the French version was sung by Francoise Hardy 13. "Lost Boys Calling" from "The Legend of 1900" (1998) 14. "The Tropical Variation" a new original instrumental piece (1996) 15. "Could Heaven Be" from "Voyage of Terror: The Achille Lauro Affair" (1990) 16. "Addio Monti" from "I Promessi Sposi" (1989) 17. "Cinema Paradiso" (1988) I don't have to tell you that all songs have been rearranged to suit the individual performers. If you don't like that kind of thing, better stay away. Hope this was helpful.

Well as a lifelong fan of maestro Morricone since I first heard the haunting theme of Once Upon A Time In The West when I was a kid I would say this 'tribute' is quite nice, a harmless bit of fun, it doesn't all work but lets not be too po-faced about most of it, there are certainly tracks to skip like the maudlin opener Celine Dion's I Knew I Loved You..just give me the music who needs the bolted on lyrics or soporiphic Vegas warbling..no way baby! But there are some great things and what a surprise to find a reprised Mina's Se Telefonando from '66, one of the maestro's pure pop moments and this version by young anglo/french popsters Vanessa & The O's La Ballade D'o is really gorgeous and faithful, a good thing if it brings the maestro to a new young audience and the maestro brings me to a new young artist..hey why not? Overall an enjoyable romp through the Morricone legend.
