Biography

80s new wave/new romantic synth-pop band A Flock of Seagulls was formed by Liverpudlian brothers Mike (vocals, keyboards) and Ali Score (drums). The band is best known for their self-titled first album and the unusual haircut of founder and frontman Mike Score - which has entered our modern pop culture and been parodied or referenced in popular TV shows Friends and That 70s Show as well as films… Read more in Amazon's A Flock of Seagulls Store

3.0 out of 5 stars Yet another repetitive compilation, September 14, 2006
This review is from: We Are the 80's (Audio CD)
With all but the "Story of a Young Heart" album on CD, I sure wish one of these numerous compilations would at last include any tracks from that album that have not appeared on CD yet. The only new track here is the B-side "Lost Control". It would be nice to even see B-sides like "Pick Me Up", "Windows", "Living In Heaven", and Cosmos on CD, as well as the extended version of Lost Control.

Also to note, this CD includes the LP mix of The More You Live The More You Love, not the 7" remix, which is on "The Best Of" CD, and the long 5 minute version of "I Ran" that originally appeared on the CD version of Flock's first CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best a flock of seagulls compilation by far., April 18, 2011
This review is from: We Are the 80's (Audio CD)
The only reason i'm writing a review for this cd is because with all due respect the other reviewer misses the point of this release and neglects to mention several important points that separate this cd from any other FOS compilation.First of all, The sound quality is simply fantastic and is matched only by "Gold and platinum collection" which has a sightly different and inferior track list but is a close second best of cd. If you are looking for a bunch of rarities or a philly cheesestake, there is only one B- side here, which is one too many as far as i'm concerned."Lost control" which is the B-side to "The more you live...".is the only B side on this compilation and as far as i know appears on cd for the first time.I don't mind B-sides, but if they are not good enough to make it to an Album , they certainly don't belong on a single best of cd period. This is the only cd that includes one of their best songs "Remember David" from story of a young heart, which a long with "I ran" "Wishing" "Space age love song" "The more you live, the more you love" "Teleccunication" "Nightmares" "transfer affection" "It's not me talking" "Modern love is automatic" "D.N.A" as well as the mediocre "Heartbeat like a drum" which a long with "lost control" are the only 2 songs i would have replaced with album tracks like"Messages""Suicide day" "Standing in the doorway" or "Story of a young heart". But with 11 out of 13 songs being either outstanding or very good, and with the sound quality being matched only by "Gold&Platinum collection",This is clearly the best a flock of seagulls representation on one cd. I am hoping for a more comprehensive and expanded collection of about 20 songs that will include the album tracks mentioned and could afford to include the only B-side worthy of being in a collection Album "living in heaven". But i do think B-sides and alternate version belong on a separate cd.They appeal to die hard fans but do not belong on a best of cd . For hard core FOS fans like myself, I would reccomend the expanded and remastered versions of their first 3 Albums . I own "Listen" and "Story of a young heart" and waiting for the self titled cd, which is arguably their best cd. unfortunately the remastering is not as good as it is on the compilations "We are the 80's" and "Gold and Platinum".which makes their presense even that more important. For casual fans who own the best of release, buy this inexpensive cd. The track listing is better and the sound quality is significantly superior.
