Not a "best of" but a "rest of" Scandal, July 24, 2006
This review is from: We Are the 80's (Audio CD)
Scandal may have been short lived, but what an impression did they have on me and many other people hence the desire to keep remembering their "hits" such as "The Warrior" and "Goodbye To You" as part of Vh-1's series of cheapo compilations by 80's artists. Whilst the other artists CD's featured on this series feature songs from their many albums and singles, such as Rick Springfrield, The Bangles and Flock of Seagulls among others, Scandals edition stands out in this pack because this is NOT a compilation of hits, but rather a celebration of a band that could have been great but disbanded after such a short-yet-astonshing time in the public eye while only recording one album and an EP.
This CD, which was released as part of Vh-1's "We Are The 80's" compilations, is in actuality Scandal's entire debut EP of 5 songs, then 4 extra songs PREVIOUSLY UNAVAILABLE on CD that were recorded during those sessions in 1982 and 5 songs from their album "The Warrior". As a fan of Scandal, I am happy that I finally have all their EP on CD. It's almost in chronological order too, only being offset by "The Warrior" being stuck in the middle at #3 on this CD. Maybe they wanted to fool those people who don't realize what this CD actually is and might get bored id they don't hear "The Warrior" right away.
I'm also happy about the 4 extra songs! One was used as a B-side to "Goodbye To You" and the other 3 have NEVER been released before! For someone who loves them, this is a treat and for those who are looking to get into this highly underrated yet short-lived band, this is an ideal starting point to educate yourself.
Honestly, I would have preferred if they re-released Scandal's debut EP on its own than having them featured on this compilation. They have 9 songs recorded from those sessions on this disc, why not do it? But I understand the concept of marketing and they're bound to sell more records if they package it as a "greatest hits" as part of Vh1's series than release an actual "album". Oh well. But I still give this album the five stars it deserves, merely because it pleases us, the fans.
May this CD bring forth more interest in Scandal and the amazing talent of Patty Smyth, so they may come back with new recordings.

The complete 1982 "Scandal" EP, a rare B side, and 3 previously unreleased songs!, July 18, 2006
This review is from: We Are the 80's (Audio CD)
Scandal was a 1980s new wave band from New York City. Their lead singer was Patty Smyth. Their lead songwriter was band member Zack Smith.
Scandal was first exposed to the world in late 1982, when their low budget but high energy video for "Goodbye To You" received heavy rotation on MTV. Patty Smyth proved to the world that she was a strong, smart, beautiful, sexy, assertive, and groovy new wave chick. This sassy kissoff song is the epitome of early 80's new wave. It's also my favorite song of all time.
Scandal is also known for their hauntingly beautiful and intimate ballad "Love's Got A Line On You," and their rousing and powerful rocker "The Warrior."
In 1982, Scandal released a 5 song EP called "Scandal." The EP had 5 songs on it: "Goodbye To You," "Love's Got A Line On You," "Win Some Lose Some," "She Can't Say Know," and "Another Bad Love." This new compilation CD is called "We Are The 80's," and contains all 5 songs from the EP. Scandal fans have been waiting for a CD release of this EP for over 2 decades, and now we finally have it!
This CD also contains the song "All My Life," which was the B-side of the "Goodbye To You" single.
In 1984, Scandal released their "Warrior" album. This CD contains 5 songs from that album: "Warrior," "Beat Of A Heart," "Hands Tied," "Say What You Will," and "Tonight."
This CD contains 3 songs that had never been released before in any format: "Grow So Wise," "If You Love Me," and "I'm Here Tonight."
"We Are The 80's" is a great showcase of Scandal's songs. It's far superior to the previous "Scandalous" compilation CD.
The early 80's was a great time for new wave women. If you watched a lot of MTV back then, you are probably already familiar with new wave artists such as the Pretenders, Blondie, the Waitresses, the Bangles, The Go Go's, Missing Persons, and the Motels, all of whose music I recommend.
But there are 2 other early 80's new wave artists that I would like to tell you about. Both were so obscure that as far as I know, they were never on MTV. I only know about them because they had music in the 1983 movie "Valley Girl," which is a movie that I recommend.
One of them is Josie Cotton. I love her 1982 album "Convertible Music." It's available on CD. The CD actually contains 2 of her albums on one CD. "Convertible Music" makes up the first 11 songs on the CD.
The other artist is Bonnie Hayes With The Wild Combo. I love their 1982 album "Good Clean Fun." Unfortunately, it's never been released on CD. But the good news is that Bonnie lets you download 3 of the album's songs for free: "Girls Like Me," "Shelly's Boyfriend," and "Coverage." Google "Bonnie Hayes" to find her website to get those songs.
If any of the record company people are reading this, please release the "Good Clean Fun" album on CD!
Anyway, to those of you who like Scandal, I recommend checking out all of the above mentioned artists. I also recommend Scandal's "Warrior" CD, and Patty Smyth's CD "Greatest Hits Featuring Scandal."

Thank you, VH-1! This is the best Scandal CD ever!!!, August 22, 2006
This review is from: We Are the 80's (Audio CD)
I cannot add much to the expert reviews that came before mine, but I must say a big "THANK YOU" to VH-1 for issuing all these rare Scandal tracks on CD, mixed in with their greatest hits.
Patty Smythe is one of the great female rockers, and I LOVE this CD. Every song is exquisite classic rock! I never thought I'd see some of these songs on CD -- and there are some songs here I never knew existed. I am stoked.
Great sound quality, too!
An excellent companion piece to "Patty Smyth featuring Scandal Greatest Hits".
