The Fire Whispers from the video sounds better than the one here, this version sounds incomplete like alot of the songs except gun in hand. I also heard a version of Dead Eyes with different lyrics that goes: "dead eyes will warn you!" which also sounded better and more finished than the new one. Where can I download these tracks? Anyway, on And We Are Bled of Color...

Ok, everyone keeps saying how these guys are a carbon copy of Story Of The Year. Story Of The Year?!! Come on, those guys are the poster children for poser music. They could perhaps be the most insulting jab to the "emo/indie" movement ever -- they hold the claim to the most inappropriate backup-screaming vocals of all time. They ruin perfectly decent songs with the echo-screamer guy where it doesnt make any sense. Horrible. SOTY should tour with Hawthorne Heights and drive off a cliff somewhere.

However, with Stutterfly, they guys are more akin to the first Deftones album (This album is the greatest new core album of all time, by the way - can anyone say "Adrenaline"?) than SOTY. Even with their first proper studio release they retain a raw but polished sound which is next to impossible to achieve. Saying Stutterfly is like SOTY is like saying Cannibal Corpse is like Guns N Roses.

Wake up, everyone, and quit jumping on the critics' bandwagon. Learn to listen to the music, not to the trendiest post by the last person who claims to know what he/she is talking about, yet gives props to a band like Story Of The Year.

4.0 out of 5 stars Something new and different, September 29, 2005

This review is from: And We Are Bled Of Color (Audio CD)
Having heard Stutterfly's 2002 album "Broken In Pieces", I can honestly say I was never that impressed with these guys. To be honest they sounded like a tired nu-metal band that was attempting to come into the music business when the genre was dull and played out. However much has changed between the last album, and 2005's "And We Are Bled Of Color", most notably the band's signing to Maverick Records. While Stutterfly seems to be marketed as a "screamo" band, I would hardly agree with that term or classification. Stutterfly actually offers a unique and fresh sounding album among their peers, who all seem to be going for the same thing right now.

The thing about Stutterfly is you can't really categorize them. They don't fit into any genre really. Most have seemed to label them as "screamo", which I honestly don't see why. Yea they sing and scream a bit, but screamo is more like pop-punk with random screaming, and Stutterfly is far from that. They blend emotional hard rock, with heavy metal influences into a pretty cohesive sound that can be just as devasting as beautiful. "Dead Eyes", the album's opening track, is the essential song to get you into the band. Right away you'll notice the grasping melodies coupled with raging screams that can go back and forth, and the many dual (sometimes triple) vocal moments, as well as the band's tight sound. Songs can range from heavy ones like "Bury Me (The Scarlet Path)" and "Flames Adorn The Silence" to lighter melodic pieces like "Fire Whispers" and "Silent Scream", all of which are great. Stutterfly even offers a couple breakdowns which was highly surprising to me. Some songs from their previous cd have been re-recorded on this one ("Gun In Hand", "Silent Scream", "Flames Adorn The Silence") and are much better on this record. The thing is that their sound is just so addicting you find yourself singing along and loving every moment.

However even though Stutterfly has a unique sound and quite a number of good songs, the albums still has a couple rough edges. Some songs just don't do it for me at all. There's about 2 or 3 slow useless songs here and there that seem to slow down the record. They would have been better off leaving those off the cd, and maybe adding another song like "Bury Me" to it. That's another thing about the cd. 13 tracks now adays is a bit too many. I don't know why, but the cd seems to start to lag on near the end. Personally I think 10 or 11 (no more than 12) is the perfect amount of songs for a cd, and about 35:00-40:00 playtime. Lyrical topics aren't so hot at points either and some song names are laughable at times, but most of that can be overlooked due to the bands excellent sound.

Overall Stutterfly's "And We Are Bled Of Color" is an enjoyable listen. They really do have a unique sound in today's music world which is not comparable to any other band right now. That is worth some merit. They are still young, so it doesn't surprise me this album isn't perfect. This is still a young band that has plenty of time and opportunity to grow, and I'd like to see what they have to offer in the future. Until then I would recommend their latest to all fans of rock or metal. You might be surprised when you find something to like. Give it a chance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Stuff, October 17, 2005
This review is from: And We Are Bled Of Color (Audio CD)
This is great music. It is always nice to hear fresh things when so many songs are sounding alike. By the way, all of you who gave them crap for conforming to "screamo", and sounding just like all the stuff out today......stutterfly's first stuff was out in 2000. Gun in hand has been out since like 2001 or 2002, along with a few other songs from this CD. Its not like this stuff is all new, and copying current music.
Stutterfly rocks so much!

5.0 out of 5 stars And..., September 2, 2005
This review is from: And We Are Bled Of Color (Audio CD)
Broken in Pieces was an awesome album. i do believe that this album is much different than their old stuff but it still has a good stutterfly sound. great songs with great meanings. stutterfly is another under-rated band with a crappy record label. Stutterfly is much better than people give them credit for.

Gun in hand, formula of flesh and bury me were 3 excellent songs but the rest of the tracks on the album just sounded like filler. not really my kind of stuff i guess.

Their first album was way better. Why? It was simplistic to the extreme. I loved the minimalist metal sound of it. The vocals on the first one were melancholy without being annoying. However, this one shows obvious talent. Unfortunately, it sacrifices simplicity for this and brings in annoying guitar trilling and vocals that are forced. Still great though.

2.0 out of 5 stars This CD is nothing new or exciting at all, July 10, 2005
This review is from: And We Are Bled Of Color (Audio CD)
Kudos to these guys for getting a chance to do something big, but the music itself is actually quite boring. There is nothing on this CD that hasn't already been done by bands who have more experience, like Funeral For A Friend.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good overall album, June 25, 2005
This review is from: And We Are Bled Of Color (Audio CD)
First of all, as most people probably know, just about half of the cd is redone songs from their previous release. Overall all of the redone songs sound very good, especially Gun in Hand. The vocals in that song really accent the singer's range and good voice. I do have to agree with a previous review though about the screaming being faded into the background, on this song and most of the others, i thought that was kind of lame. Still though, gun in hand is a great song. On the other hand, I absolutely hated the redone version of "Fire Whispers", it's just absolutely bad, they took out the pre-chorus so the transition sounds awkward, and it sounds like there's no passion or effort in the vocals. There's a lot of good songs on the cd, and a few very very mediocre songs such as "The Sun Bleeds Red". This song especially, along with a couple others, sounds just so thrown together and generic. The song stucture is ridiculously predictable, and none of the musical or vocal parts have much stregth. Like i said though, this is only true for a few songs. Overall, the cd worth buying, these guys are great.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Album, June 21, 2005
This review is from: And We Are Bled Of Color (Audio CD)
I saw this band when they were on tour with Letter Kills just a few months ago, and instantly fell in love. I bought their 3 track promo CD at the show, and listened to those three songs for nearly a week straight. Their single, "Gun In Hand" was featured on the "House of Wax" soundtrack, and for good reason.

The band is an excellent mix of several genres, that blend together perfectly. High-pitched riffs fit seemlessly with the lead singer's melodic voice. In the background, screams echo the words of the songs, appealing to the 'screamo' fans. I really can't stress what an excellent album this is, and how quiet this release was. I highly recommend giving this a listen, it's one of my favorite albums of the year.
