Not Just a BTBAM Clone....,

GLASS CASKET - We Are Gathered Here Today...
- These guys have been living in the footsteps of NC's Between the Buried and Me... Sadly this hasn't been helped by the fact that one of their Guitar Player's and their Drummer, Blake Richardson are now part of BTBAM. Despite many similarities between the two bands... Glass Casket does distinguish itself with this album. Songs like Pencil Lead Syringe immediately grab you by the junk and don't let go, pushing the limits of Grind, Hardcore, and Metal for nearly 5 minutes. This is pretty much the pattern up until the eerie, minute interlude, `Cellar Door'. Then immediately back into the chaos with `Chew Your Fingers' (the part at 1:10 onward and into the solo probably my highlight of the entire album.) Continuing with their more creative yet still heavy track right until the end. And speaking of the the final track, `A Gray A.M. You Will Never Get to See' is immediately vicious then flows into a heartfelt piece about the loss of his Sister to a car accident. Very seldom in modern music can you truly feel `heart' and `sincerity' this man put true emotion into that track and it shows... a beautiful, yet sad and somber way to end the CD. Any fans of Aggressive Hardcore Music should check this CD out - Despite the BTBAM Similarities it is still an incredible album. Make sure you listen to the album in its entirety. For it ends stronger than how it started. [Hopefully Glass Casket will recover after losing 2 members... BTBAM is on their 3rd Drummer and their 2nd Rhythm Guitarist and Alaska was their strongest yet. I've heard they are still together so I look forward to hearing these guys in the future.] Favorite Tracks: Chew Your Fingers, Scarlet Paint and Gasoline, In Between the Sheets and A Gray A.M. You Will Never Get to See. -4.25 Stars. IF YOU LIKED, AGREED, OR APPRECIATED THIS PLEASE CLICK YES FOR: "Was this review helpful?"

One of the best albums I have ever heard,

I own 2600 c.d.'s. Hardcore, Death Metal, Black Metal, Grind, Every kind of metal you can think.
Well Glass Casket has just helped me out by adding it all into one. Mathematical, Technical, Breakdowns, Grind, Solos, a few clean vocal spots, but not overdone. If you want to get your heart pounding, or if you just want to appreciate musicianship at it's best, check out this band.

Metalcore on the DeathishGrind level...,

From NC comes another metalcore band that wants to twist and shake things up a bit. We are Gathered Here Today to talk about the band Glass Casket. With a great mix of metalcore, deathmetal, and grindcore, this band produces some of the coolest music around. From "Pencil Lead Syringe" and "And So It Was Said" to "In Between The Sheets," We Are Gathered Here Today proves to be a rewarding listen for those who love this genre. Fans of BTBAM, Animosity, Hatebreed, (Old) Embodyment, and Norma Jean should appreciate this.

So,I've had this cd for quite a while now, listened to it,and threw it in the cd pile. Why? I have no idea, but I'm glad I gave it another chance. This is an awesome tech metal album with metalcore and death metal mixed in there. The instruements are pure craziness(and really heavy), and the vocals are very good as well. It does have some problems, though: it wasn't long enough! There are only 9 tracks, and 8 with actual music. Another problem was the vocals, as sometimes they seemed a little too low in the mix, especially on the death growling parts, and a little bit better production on the vocals could've fixed that. Overall, a really good album.

Having lived in the middle of this heavy music explosion out of NC (dont believe me come see BTBAM play at Tremont Music Hall) I can truly say Glass Casket is by far one of the most original bands to date. Drawing comparisons to the Red Chord and BTBAM are unfair, Glass Casket definately has their own style that is untouchable. The most vicious vocals, pounding blast beats, one of the heaviest bass drums, and devestaing riffs in these songs put them in a class by themselves. Whats even better about it is they are not tied up in appearance, they look like regular ass doods who like to play heavy music. The only thing better than this cd is their live show, which rocks so hard it begins to hurt toward the end. The guys, along with another band out of Raleigh NC, "Called to Arms", are going to make some noise and be heard of for quite a while. Buy this cd, buy BTBAM's self titled and look out for Called to Arms. NC is going to be on the metal map for a little while.

This band is great. They are very talented and have their own sound. Many people seem to think they sound like BTBAM, but they show little resemblance. The singing is much deeper and brutal than them. The riffs in general are as well. There is more structure than BTBAM and other tech metal bands, which I prefer. I can't listen to Dillenger for hours straight like I could this band. Unlike bands like Dillenger, they can appeal to a much wider audience. I wouldn't even classify this album as tech metal, now that I think of it since there isn't much technicality, but just great riffs complimented with nice drumming and a great singer. The lyrics are lacking, but the overall mood is awesome. I hope these guys come to the New England Metal/Hardcorefest again this year, because these guys are great. Catchy songs with plenty of fun, in my eyes.

The tech metal scene seems to have been exploding over the past few years and this is another addition to it. Some have been comparing it to the red chord which I do not believe is a fair comparison.
The Red Chord is tech because they love tech metal. Glass Casket is tech because they just really want to be tech. You can hear that there are many phrases on the CD that are uninspired and thrown in to transition the song from one section to the next. But isn't that what tech is? To a point, yes. But not with this kind of predictability. Randomness is the friend of tech (not complete chaos, there is still enough struction for it not to lose focus.) Many times you are just sitting around waiting for a great breakdown to kick in and in half the songs, it doesn't happen. BUT! There is a positive side. At least half the album is fantastic (first song and the last 4) and I see no room for improvement on these 5 tracks. The other 4 you can look over and not think about them.

Making a scene, on the scene,
By YoMama (NC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: We Are Gathered Here Today (Audio CD)
For metal core fans this CD should be a staple in your collection. Collectively, the band melds together energy and talent taking the listener on an auditory thrill ride. Separately, each member of the band brings a spicy component to the mix that makes the metal core magic happen. The guitar riffs are ardently aggressive, making you sit up and take notice. During any one of the numerous changes you can hear nuances of 80's headbanger, hair bands, metal, emo and, (dare I say), a twisted classical flavor. Combining the guitars with the solid foundation of the bassist, you get a rich, heart pounding theme that permeates throughout the collection. (*In Between The Sheets) The band's masterfully antagonistic drummer gives a blistering performance. The frequent time changes, at first, seem to come out of nowhere but, surprisingly, lead you directly onto a new sensory path. (*And So It Was Said) The lyrics are a growled-out provocative assemblage, at times bordering on the morose. The guttural song style of the lead singer places images of heartache, pain, tragedy, pleasure and longing in your already overloaded frontal cortex. (*Pencil Lead Syringe) Glass Casket's release of "We Are gathered Here Today" is a welcomed addition to the metal core scene. Their journey from parent's basements to high tech recording studios has been an impressively fast climb up the hard core ladder. Hopefully, their next release will incorporate more ambient tracks and mental down time for the listener. Come on guys, at least let us catch our breath before the next assault!

This is an awsome CD, it contains 9 songs, one of them being the famous Pencil Lead Syringe. It is the ultimalte metal/hardcore mix, it has amazing drum beats, crazy guitar cords, and wild vocals. This is the gathering of intense, violent, irrisistable, ground smashing stuff you'll ever experience in your life people! This is more than just music, this is music that is Fearfully and Wonderfully Made. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME, OR YOU'LL BE WASTING YOUR LIFE! B-U-Y I-T N-O-W!!!
