"We Are Glitter" is a unique compilation of remixes from Goldfrapp's breathtaking album "Supernature," which was released last year. This selection of twelve remixes was selected by the band themselves and contains eleven "Supernature" remixes, plus a new remix of the song "Strict Machine," which is from Goldfrapp's "Black Cherry" album. I was surprised that my favorite song from the "Supernature" album, "Ooh La La," is my least favorite remix on "We Are Glitter." It's not a bad remix by any means, but it's very "clubby" compared to the other tracks, which are all outstanding and truly innovative. Favorite remixes on this album include "Satin Chic," "Lovely 2 C U," and "Number 1," but I seriously love every single track! If you're a new Goldfrapp fan, I advise you to check out "Supernature" before listening to this album...you'll appreciate it much more that way. For die-hard fans like myself, however, "We Love Glitter" is a nice and unexpected treat in between Goldfrapp's major album releases. I love this CD!

Another winner from Goldfrapp,
By Tom (Toronto) - See all my reviews

Why does Goldfrapp remain one of music's hidden treasures? Yes, they have received some good notices but ask a number of people if they have heard of Goldfrapp, and I guarantee you will get many people asking "Who's that?"
Which is too bad because Goldfrapp continues to be one of music's most interesting acts. Their last two albums "Black Cherry" and "Supernature" feature seductive electro-pop songs that range from upbeat to moody. It's hard to pigeonhole them yet they have a distinct sound. "We Are Glitter" is a compilation of remixes of songs from their past two albums, with an emphasis on their most recent, "Supernature". Remix albums are usually a mixed bag; often you can only find a good mix amongst overlong and indulgent mixes. But "We Are Glitter" actually works as an album. The remixes are top-notch, and can be distinguished from each other. What I also like about this album is that Goldfrapp doesn't pander to club culture. Yes, some of the songs make you want to dance, but the remixes are more concerned with establishing mood and atmosphere rather than increasing the beat for house/circuit mixes. The best mixes are "Lovely 2 C U", the "Ride a White Horse" mixes and "Number 1". Goldfrapp could release another volume of mixes because there are many other mixes out there of their work ready to be compiled. I predict this compilation will be a success with Goldfrapp's fans but unfortunately I think Goldfrapp will remain music's best-kept secret. Check out "We Are Glitter".

"We are Glitter" is just GREAT,

I must tell that I'm picky when it comes about remixes. But We Are Glitter is an exception. Every single song is amazing. My favorite one is Slide In (DFA Remix) I don't care it takes too long, sounds as original as Satin Chic. The remixes of Satin Chic are really good, but in my opinion, any of this is as good as the original version of this song (So sad it wasn't a single). The Lovely 2 CU, You never know, Number 1 and White horse mixes are excellent! And Strict Machine is simply the best. I thought this was going to be the same as the Live CD's edition, but only some parts of this mix were used to extend the original version in their live shows, also it's catchy and, well, is everywhere today!
Putting all together, We Are Glitter is the Best Remixes CD I've ever heard! But you should listen Supernature (My #1 album) before listening We Are Glitter. Every single Goldfrapp material is highly recommended.

Great Complation,
By Juggs "Norris" (London) - See all my reviews

This is an outstanding complation of the remixes off of 'Supernature.' Also, it includes the new remix of 'Strict Machine', which seems to be everywhere these days! The 'Lovely 2 See U' remix is the best, hands down.
The remix of 'Fly Me Away' is the weakest....the original is the best. There are just some songs you don't remix...'Fly Me Away' is one of them. Overall, this CD is a must for Goldfrapp fans. Their music is amazing and always surprising. Buy This!!!

A mordern Goldfrapp,
By Von (Montreal, Quebec Canada) - See all my reviews

This cd contains 12 pieces of music that have been remixed : 11 from the cd Supernature and one from Black Cherry. If you like Supernature, you may like this one more, or like it less than the original, but for shure this is not the kind of music Goldfrapp issued in the previous cds -A lot more electronic and dance music. Personnaly, I prefer the first album (Felt Mountain) and the last one (2008 : 7th tree) which contain beautifull and profoundly original compositions, including relaxing ones.

It's Not the Voice,

It's not the voice, she has the pipes of Kate Bush -- it's the songs. The lyrics consist entirely of "oh baby", "you are my man", and "let's hump". It's like the very worst of Marilyn Monroe. That kind of saccharin baby talk that is for me at least, completely unsexy. The music is techno-pop and tends to ramble thematically too. Although technically proficient, together the whole effect is heavy handed and tasteless. That said, maybe I picked a bad one. Every band has one. She's very pretty, so perhaps I need to see the video. Maybe that's the trick. But if you want to start on Goldfrapp, I would suggest picking a different one than this.

Extraordinary.,

This was certainly a surprising album. "Supernature" was spectacular; "We Are Glitter" is a diffrent breed: it is overly-spectacular. Oh, rather. The album has its faults, as one should expect from a remix-CD, but the others are incomparable and seem to surpass the originals in many respects. 'Satin Chic' (#1) is wonderful; a great intro to the album. 'Lovely 2 C U' is energy put into audio waves. 'You Never Know' is dreamy, but manages to be at one with the other tracks. The remixes to 'Number 1' and 'Ride a White Horse' are electronic bliss like their originals (but more upbeat). 'Strict Machine' is an auditory jewel - perhaps the absolute highlight of the CD: reason enough to buy the album. Already awaiting Goldfrapps next CD and hopeful of another remix to the likes of this one...

Simply brilliant! Remixes that give the originals a run for their money,
By guillermoj (Washington, DC United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: We Are Glitter (Audio CD)
This release grabs some of Goldfrapp's songs (with heavy emphasis on the "Supernatural") and manages to do the seemingly impossible: songs that actually improve on most of the originals by giving them an extra kick and depth instead of most of the by the numbers bells and whistles that give most remixes a bad name. If you've already Goldfrapp already, then buying this CD is a no brainer. For those who don't, it's hard to explain as it qualifies as electronica, disco, glam rock and is lush/dream-like at the same time. One of the songs from "Supernatural" has been heavily used in other mediums, such as the promos. those for the last season of the TV show "Nip/Tuck."
I could not believe the quality of the remixes as I am generally not a fan of them as songs tend to get diluted and lose some of their original appeal with a certain generci treatment. All the remixers in this release(which were picked by Goldfrapp) are at the top of their game and have created a world in which you want to shake it until you can't anymore. I only discovered Goldfrapp a couple of years ago, and while I liked them intially, it was not until this release that I could not get them out of my mind or CD player. I give this an unqualified 5-stars, esp. for Goldfrapp fans. Those who've never heard of them may want to give this a shot, esp. if tired of buying music that is ok but has no urgency or sharp edges.

Came across Goldfrapp when seeking simialr artist to Ladyhawke, Peaches, Miss Kitten, and FischerSpooner.
So glad I found it. Have bought Black Cherry first and thought it was great. Went back and bought Head First and thought that was even better, and then bought Supernature and thought that was really good too. So I did not have to give it much thought in buying Glitter as I have not heard anything from Goldfrapp that I do not like. It is great music while working or at the gym. Not sure how the science of this music gets me, as I am not a pop-dance kind of guy. I like fast, thick beats and would not normally give something so frilly looking and for lack of better word "girlie" kind of look and feel. But when I listen to it, the beat, the synths, her melodic voice and how it all comes together is much more than the parts themselves. I am very impressed with this music. |
