The Anti-Nowhere League is another great classic band and this is a great place to start off with. every song on this album is excellent. The League's goal in the beginning was to make the worst album ever written. even though this is a very excellent album, lyrically, some of you might think that the lyrics are dumb or doesn't make sense. If you like british punk that came from the side of the Clash (Crass, Conflict, Rudimentary Peni, etc. because this was the band that they were influenced by.), then you might want to stay away from this.

Classic, filthy, funny Oi!,

ANL was one of the dirtiest, most wrotten bands in the English Punk Scene of the 1980s. Musically, they were right up there with the likes of the 4-Skins and Cockney Rejects, as they produced some of the loudest, most aggressive Oi! tracks ever. Lyrically, the band was funnier, and dirtier than most bands at the time, or even today! The band wasn't without their politically or socially conscience side, as seen in tracks like "Streets of London" or the added track "Ballard of J. J. Decay." But the band is, and should be, best remembered for tracks like "Woman," a rude anti-love song, "Animal," a self-loathing number, and probably my favorite "So What?" which is all about being the most disgusting, anti-bragging song ever. A classic album for fans of Macc Lads, Cockney Rejects, or the Exploited.

While not every song is a winner for me, I enjoy the majority so thoroughly that I can't help but give it 5 stars. There is a serious balls to the wall energy that flows through the music. Combine this with the attitude and you've essentially got a classic. I think that the CD (and vinyl) set the mood off right with "We Are The League". Great to mix together with Ramones, Dead Kennedys and Angry Samoans. Ah, yes, soothing and satisfying. If only I could have experienced them live, back in the day...

you think fear and the meatmen were politically incorrect? true, but so were the anti-nowhere league. in fact, they were probably even more so. this album is indeed worth the price for 'so what,' a song which metallica made famous and their version is the first time i heard of the league. the rest of this album is pretty good punk and oi with a very trashy rock n roll leaning to it. get this and see why everyone likes these guys.

We Will Not Remember You,
By Patrick Stott (Rolleston, Canterbury, New Zealand) - See all my reviews
This review is from: We Are the League (Audio CD)
Raucous, offensive and simplistic, ANL seemed to annoy everyone. They called it as they saw it, and weren't afraid to call everyone names if they saw the need. "Woman" is an absolute punk classic. Starting as a rough and ready but seemingly heartfelt love song, it deteriorates into a sexist, abusive, but hilarious take off of love songs. There's perversion aplenty here ("'Reck-a-nowhere", "Animal", bonus track "So What"), homophobia ("(We Will Not) Remember You"), and a big middle finger to the world ("We're The League", "Snowman"). Despite the simplistic songs and the lyrics straight from the gutter, it's hard to resist this album. Before you know it, you're crooning along with Animal to "Woman", and your toes are tapping to "I Hate...People" and "'Reck-a-nowhere", and you've forgotten how dreadful "Streets Of London" was in it's original form. "Streets Of London" was ANL's debut single, and was an absolutely awful rendering of the melancholic song, backed by the ultra-filthy "So What". And of course, it dropped the band in trouble right up to their eyeballs. The Obscene Publications Squad seized it after finding out about the now infamous B-side. One saving grace though - a Radio 1 DJ declared it the worst recording ever! This would have been the perfect antidote to New Wave and pretentious punk bands like The Clash who had forgotten the original spirit of punk. As it stands today, it's rough as guts, but the songs have stood the test of time, even if the production hasn't, a lot like listening to an old Motorhead album.

Rubbish really, but worth it for "woman" and "So What" which are amusing to hear again.

The CD is actually rather funny, or so I find, and damned offensive.
However, it also is damned good. The songs are catchy and good, and the ANWL definately released a timeless album.

I am a guitarist and I jam with this kid named Pash who plays drums. It just so happens his uncle plays drums in Anti-Nowhere League. I have listened to most of this album and damn, this is what punk is meant to sound like.
