5.0 out of 5 stars Brutal, and the CD is mixed MUCH better than C.O.G, June 16, 2008
This review is from: We Are the Nightmare (Bonus Dvd) (Audio CD)
Firstly, this CD is pretty much non-stop hard riffs, "My Oath to Madness" is my favorite, awesome blend of heavy riffs, speed, and the chorus is really catchy. A little bit of more gutteral death metal vocals can be heard, but it is mostly the usual harsh, higher vocals in most of the songs (which I like the best). But best of all, this CD was mixed perfectly. I found that when listening to Celebration of Guilt, there was way too much emphasis put on the bass and drums. I have a standard subwoofer in my car and the bass was just overpowering. You couldn't hear the vocals and the guitar was muffled, it was a storm of cymbals and double bass. On the other hand, "We are the Nightmare" is perfect. The drums are crisp, and the guitar and vocals are prominent. This CD sounds incredible, there is no filler in any of the songs. Just straight up Arsis technical death that can't be beat!

5.0 out of 5 stars Minds That Know Wizardry, May 23, 2008
This review is from: We Are the Nightmare (Bonus Dvd) (Audio CD)
To be honest, I never owned an album by Arsis 'till today. I bought it at the local FYE. I have to admit. I'm highly impressed with it! The guitart work is uncanny and stealth-like. You can't tell what the next melody will ever be. It's a bit blunt and such but nontheless, It's a fine fine album. This album for me sound likes someone put SOD, Slayer, and Dark Tranquility in a food processor. LMAO, And it taste damn good. "We Are The Nightmare" is unpredictable technical thrash/death metal. If That makes sense for you genre-mongors out there. Kidding.

I recommend this to fans of The Black Dahlia Murder and such. Great Album!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, April 21, 2008
This review is from: We Are the Nightmare (Bonus Dvd) (Audio CD)
Phenomenal CD. Just what you'd expect from people who created A Celebration of Guilt. Just like the first album, it just grabs you and won't let go. If you thought that ACOG was the best thing that happened to metal since the Slaughter of the Soul, get this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, July 10, 2008

I discovered Arsis only about 6 months ago when I stumbled on a live performance of Face of My Innocence from Celebration of Guilt on youtube. I've been a fan ever since.

We Are the Nightmare is better than I could have hoped for. It is precise, technical, brutal and all the while most importantly: very catchy. I walk around with not only choruses stuck in my head, but guitar riffs. This is quite an achievement for a band. The drum and guitar work are nothing short of brilliant on this album. I would be surprised if any other release tops this one for 2008. For metal fans, this one is a must-buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Promotional CD instead of Real CD, February 13, 2011

This review is from: We Are the Nightmare (Audio CD)
[...] It's non-stop rocking from hard to finish and is frequently the CD of choice in my car stereo.

On the downside, the CD that arrived was one of the promotional CDs that were given out before the album was released. The CD I had ordered claimed to have been one of the ones with bonus content, but I wasn't too worried about getting that or not. There is even a warning on the CD that says, "This is a promotional copy only and may not be sold"

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Quite A Nightmare, But Not Their Best, March 15, 2010

This review is from: We Are the Nightmare (Bonus Dvd) (Audio CD)
Arsis have been the darlings of the brutal death metal underground since their dazzling 2004 debut, A Celebration of Guilt, which proved that Americans can incorporate beautiful melodies into a raging tornado of tremolo guitar riffs and blast beats even better than European contemporaries.

After the disappointment of the last album, United in Regret, founding member Jim Malone decided to start writing catchy melodies again -- Nightmare is definitely a heavy album, but when it's not busy reaching in and tearing the listener's spine out of his or her nose, the tear-dropping sense of melody from Celebration returns.

Sure, the new drummer's start-stop style is choppy, and the production lacks fortitude; any more random sweep picking and I'd want the guitarists' fingers amputated. But, overall, the album works. Want proof? Listen to "Sightless Wisdom," "Failing Winds of Hopeless Greed" and "Servants to the Night."

5.0 out of 5 stars Very unique metal, February 24, 2010

I know some people don't like all the twiddling on the leads on this album... I get it, but really, this album is probably my favorite Arsis, right up there with Celebration of Guilt. The stuff they are doing on here is just crazy... and sets a standard that I've heard others rip off, but never capture. I blast this album in my car all the time. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Technical Brutality, February 23, 2009
This review is from: We Are the Nightmare (Bonus Dvd) (Audio CD)
This $hit is catchy, technical and brutal. Seriously, if you are a fan of any kind of metal, this band will blow you away. Crank this CD up and scare the hell out of anyone in the car next to you. The only thing this CD is not is metalcore, which makes it even better. Pure catchy brutality. Hail!
